You're right Wolf. Nela--your excellent guess was only slighty off as I didn't say it was a UK group, though effectively it was. Mitch Miller ( 1947-2008) was the drummer born in Ealing, West London, who nearly was the drummer for The Who ( that came from nearby Acton) but went with Jimi Hendrix instead later on.

The band that kicked off the 3 day pop festival was The Association.
