Bell Lane Infants School, it's been knocked down now and built on, as has the primary school. Ian Soanes and Clive Upton are both lads I would love to meet again; they were both lovely. Funny, but the last I heard of Ian, he was living on the Sandhills estate Ron. That was many years ago now though. (Not sure of the spelling of Soanes any more) |

Even though EVERYONE knew us, the High School said because I was "married" now...that I could have nothing to do with my classmates, while in school..I could not walk with anyone in high school graduation, and I had to drop immediately out of any school activites, I kept saying that my classmates were more likely to have "sex" that weekend then I was, because my hubby was stationed far enough away, I couldn't readily see him weekends. They use to "punished" students for doing what I had done back in those days. I was really upset about the graduation, being the ONLY person to walk by myself ..and I told them that if I had to be made an spectical of, that I was using my "married" name. Well, came that night...Jerry walked in and he said, my partner was injuried and couldn't make it tonight..and I'd like to know if I can walk you in graduation. I said, well, I guess I could agree to that, since I've went from kindergarden with you in school...to now. Well, as it turned out the same time I was graduating my hubby was graduating also...and getting his orders to go to Viet Nam. I will always wonder if Jerry "stepped in" because of the postion his dad had with the "Elks Lodge" and their "loyality" to local veterans...if not finding out the discrimination I was being made to go through at the time. I will always remember his kindness to me that evening. I was''t treated like some kind of freak for an change. as it turned out later on, my hubby would be given an "Commendation Metal" for his services in Viet Nam...at Washington D. C. and finish out his service at the "Green Beret" headquarters at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina...he worked as an "office clerk" at headquarters there. He was one of three out of about 150 commrades to make it back home alive. My class was totally unrulely though, I can remeber when five of the boys were kicked out of class for wearing their shirts out of their pants that year..another three got suspended for wearing blue jeans to school. We were an group I guess out to tell the world that things weren' t "disgraceful"...if they weren't done the traditional way at times. It is perhaps that some things needed to change.

He was one of the bad boys of the school and I had a secret crush on him. But he always picked on me and called me silly names. It wasn't until the end of our sixth grade year that I found out he actually liked me and didn't know how to say it. LOL! |
