It's nice to be able to have a little optimism now after so long of the whole atmosphere of the nation being down in the dumps. Vera, I also understand your bafflement, but I think you're mistaken about us thinking of Obama as the nation's savior. We're just trying to grab on to a little shred of hope that the change will be for the better. Nobody's predicting that he will be successful. But if you think Brown's bad, well, ...I think you know what I mean. well I'm afraid my opinion of him and his cronies cannot be aired on a polite site such as this. That pretty much sums up my feelings about the outgoing president I'm afraid.

Point well taken, Bob. And thanks for clarifying that your comments weren’t directed at me. Sorry for being a little testy, but I felt a bit attacked there. But no harm done and no hard feelings. Good old fashioned American political banter, eh? Where were you 3 months ago? We could have had some great discussions. Lol
I agree with you and Vera though about the bandwagon jumpers and the hype and “cult of celebrity’” that seems to run politics (and everything else for that matter). How do you think Regan and Schwarzenegger became governors of California? I know that Obama has a very ambitious agenda that he may not be able to pull off. Only time will tell. I try to be optimistic, but I wasn’t born yesterday and just the fact that I say that probably means I’m a little more cynical than I like to think I am. But even if he is able accomplish some of his grand plans, it won’t only be him making it happen any more than it was only George Bush who singlehandedly got us into the mess we’re in now. We’re all accountable, like Shirley mentioned, and I like the fact that that’s part of Obama’s message. It’s our apathy that will do us in, I think. |
