In 1990 the wife and I sepatated for a few years. The whole family was going through a bad patch including unemployment. On Christmas morning I went round to give the grandchildren thier pressies. My youngest grandson asken me what I got for Christmas. I told him "nothing", nobody could afford anything. He told me to stop mucking about and tell him what I got. Eventualy he began to believe me. He ran upstairs and came down with a cuddly toy. It was an orange and yellow donkey. Here you are Grandad he said. Happy Christmas. He gave me the toy donkey. He was only 5 years old and he gave me the best christmas gift I ever had, his love and thaughts.  He is now grown up and gave me a great grandson. But I still have that fluffy donkey. The best Christmas gift  ever.

Great story, Peter.  The best gifts are those like you described.
