I've been watching on the news. We depend on a lot on big multinational companies that are closing teir factories and leaving the country, and for years and years farmers and fishermen lived on European funds, they should have used to improve their hability to produce quality products at controlled costs... it's structural and this problem in Portugal will take a long time to get solved. In the meantime they're building a new massive airport near Lisbon (which already has one) and they want to build a TGV train railways that are going to cost billions of euros so peolpe can save 30 minutes from Lisbon to Porto...

I think POE has really helped us all to realise that the economic problems are worldwide Nela. I think we are all affected. My husband is an engineer and his job is very insecure at the moment. All our engineering is dying out here too.

Don't worry Nela - took me ages to reply to you with all the tax returns I was preparing last month! I am going to look for some postcards at the weekend to send.

Sounds like our major banks, getting bailed out by the federal govt.for billions of taxpayer dollars and yet buying 50 million dollar corperate jets and having huge 12 day vacations at top resorts and here we are suffering, and paying for all of this!!! we need to bring back the "French Revolution"of doing things !

Banks are the same everywhere, it seems. And the tax payers are the ones to pay... just yesterday more fraudulent activities were discovered on a major bank.
