Another dreadful story in the news yesterday was of a man who killed his family and then committed suicide due to extreme financial troubles.

What made this story particularly poignant to me is that, according to one of the the three suicide notes he left (one to authorities, one to extended family, and one containing a will), he and his wife discussed their options and mutually agreed that this was the only way out of their problems.

I know times are tough (I am concerned about being laid off my own job right now), but I find it profoundly disturbing that a couple would choose to exterminate their entire family over finances.  There are agencies out there that could have helped them.

It is NOT a parents prerogative to decided on the death of their children. This is the second family murdered in this way in a month I believe.

Those poor children, what horror must their last moments have been knowing their own parents, who were there to love and protect them, were going to kill them.

I still haven't gotten over the horror of the woman in Texas who drowned her five children.

Well the children are in the arms of the Lord now, the parents, they will know with complete clarity the magnitude of there actions.

We have just had someone murdered here in Millom last weekend.  It was awful, the girl was 35 and had 3 children.  The man who did it then went round to his step-dads and tried to kill him too.  This all happened on Saturday morning at 10.00am.  Millom is a very small community where everyone knows everyone.  It's just awfull, and the poor kids.

It's a sad world we live in at times

We had an young guy here, laid off his job, they aren't quite sure why he comminted sucide, but before he did, he went to an local teen club downtown Portland called "The Zone"..and fired nine rounds into other kids, mostly an group of foreign exchange students that got together. Parents are flying in to pick up there dead children...while everyone is shocked someone would do such an thing...The kid that was the gunman was not an American either...he was from Mexico.. Still trying to find an motive for it all...though they say he was mentally ill and estranged from his family, and 24 years old.  69 more miles and the fence is complterely between our borders and Mexico...Two weeks ago it was the FBI and an all out Mexican Drug War Lord "shoot-out" down there over illegals and drugs coming in to the USA. They were using military style repeating rifles also...not little hand guns in this battle.

I agree with you Sue - people have no right to take the lives of their children. There was a case not long back where a man jumped off the balcony on holiday with his two children - the 2 year old girl lived and the 6 year old boy died and the man who did it lived. The poor mother of those children. He blamed her saying she was going to leave him - no excuse - and he was acquitted of his son's murder.

There is more to this than simply losing a job or financial woes. It may have been the last straw, but there are underlying problems known only to the families.

I agree Bob; God only knows what all the dynamics were behind such an action.

It is still beyond selfish to impose you will on innocent children.

The parents could have killed themselves and the children could have been adopted into good, loving families and led full lives.
