It was fun!!  We tried to find it!!!

What's a snipe!?

they are little blue fluffy things that kind of remind one of an "smurf"(cartoon characters)  ..they eat popcorn and hard to find. We lead an all night excursion with the littlier scouts one night at their main headquarters campground looking for them one time. Their "mating call" is an lot like an duck also. We heard them, we found feathers from them but we never caught one.

Snipe hunting is a come and be had Krissy.

A real snipe is a big brown bird with a long bill. I think Paul has posted a picture of one on here somewhere.

Many of our campgrounds have started otu with "nothing" there, We pulled into one for an week, it did have "pit" type outhouse and an few tables though...we established our parimeter boundry lines, (older scouts), sset up our tents and gear..and then took one day to set up an summer camp there, we established the flag pole first, then went on to the landing dock in the lake, for extra boats, the only way you could get there, we actually had ski boats, fishing boats, canoes, and row boats... for safely and survial situations, fishing, sking, how to row, and canoeing, and swimming. We also use the dock for nighttime "sky" observations and astronomy classes..but we also built our main big campfire (for ceremonies) and meeting area, corded off the wood lot we made, started up the "bear"our source for hot water constantly and lots of it, and not to far from it the shower area, then we built the kitchen quarters, and an complete rope made sink and prepareness area for the boys and set up tables for buffet eating and the rest of the kitchen behind the serving area to cook and store our food, and our little "store" for selling the goodies/treats, from there we made lounge chairs out of rope/downed branches, and we brought folding tables for the other classes to teach from leather making to woodmaking, and whatnot else, in one week we used it all and when we left, you'd never known an person had ever been there. Some 20 plus boys and one parent for every 1/1/2 kid, we had to turn into the office before we left, "certified" trained parents, plus what they ate everyday, and who was with whom every minute they were there...for an solid week. Plus we had to have someone trained in emergencies, we actually had about three of them, not to mention one doctor, and one ICU nurse, and an paramedic by daily profession there. In all we were about 60 people, but some left and came through the week...came back for the grand final ceremonies. It took us one year in advance to get everyone trained and all this through the necessary paper work to hold our own "summer camp"...it was over near Bend, Oregon...on the far end of Lake Cultus. but it goes to show you what can be done with "nothing". Absolutely nothing for the most part.

You sure it's not something you pick up by the beak and whack it a couple of times...the long beak looks intimidating to me..notice it's bellly, maybe it's full of water? Nectar....Where do they live anybody know? My "Ruby bird" heard that comment and he's letting me know I right now...he's throwing me "kisses" this morning since Ipicked him up. Over visiting the other two birds right now. He needs a bath and an warm wooly towel...talk later.
