I think Patricia Routledge is brilliant.  I've not seen her in anything apart from Keeping Up Appearances, but she's the Lucille Ball of British comedy, IMHO.  My favorite British actor would have to be Michael Caine, hands down.  And Alec Guinness isn't too shabby either.

Liam Neeson (Irish, I think) - loved him in Rob Roy.  (Praying for his wife, actress Natasha Richardson's recovery from her skiing accident).

anyone remeber Maureen O'Hara..she's Irish I think ..but she played an lot of roles with John Wayne way back when that I liked. Miechal Caine is an good one also...how about Roger Moore?..played 007..does he fit the category or not.
