I was in kindergarten actually and they took us on a field trip to the Atlanta zoo, home of Willie B, a western lowland gorilla. The teacher had us gather around a table encased in glass to look at a display of reptiles when all of a sudden from behind me came what sounded like a small explosion, followed immediately by a horrific bellow. I turned to see Willie B in a glass enclosed cage, slamming a tire chain against the glass and alternating it with beating his chest and bellowing his discontent. I was absolutely petrified and have had a fear of gorillas ever since. Fortunately, except for a few I have to hustle on the subway I don't encounter them very often. |
