just been watching the live debate (Who's boring! lol) from the House of Commons. The Speaker has resigned, 1st one to do that for 300 years. he doesnt leave his post til 21 june though. 

For the POE members not familier with the situation, i'll explain.  our government is made up of two houses.(In the Houses of Parliment)

The house of commons, these are elected members (MP's) of which make up the government, including the Prime Minister, and the opposition government, who's job it is to challenge the government. each MP represents an area of the country. Their job is to fight for the rights of the 'man in the street' and help push through or reform laws etc

. The House of Lords, these are 'titled' members, non elected 'privilaged' men and women whos job it is to pass the laws etc presented to them by the House of Commons.

The figurehead is her majesty the Queen.

The 'Speaker' sits in the 'chair' of the House of Commons (refered to as The Lower House) and is supposed to keep order.

That simply is who the Speaker is, he has lost the respect of the 'House' over his handling of the MP's expenses claims 'fiddle'.

Crazed...very short staffed today!!!
