Don't know that I came close but I liked it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_Girl http://history1900s.about.com/od/1920s/a/flappers.htm |

I had quite an few dress clothes in A-lined skirts. I also had companion blue jeans and white slacks with this particualr outift...to dress it up or down. I paid what would be about $200 dollars now for rmy clothes back then. One outifit. Sometimes I paid more. I like all kinds of styles though..these days, I'd probably give more emphaisis to that in buying clothing. for the above occasion it was Martha Waterman's 104 birthday, and her son whom was an Gov or politican in alaska sent her 104 long stemmed red roses, and we had an grand affair, as her husband was into Oregon politics in his youth, so it was an special party just for her....the dining room was just packed for this event. It was written up in the newspapers the next day also. After I left her party, I went to the Elks Lodge special veteran's celebration and parade...there we were given little flags to wave...I think I dressed appropriately...for back then. As I said, the people that sponsored us went on to become the State President of the Lodge...he was still an officer back then though also...Exaluted Ruler the following year. We had our little group back then. You see I gave all this up for my son and a new house...that we had to finsih off ourselves. I went to work nights and weekends to save form babysitters and everything kind of went out the door with that choice of raising him myself. I didn't though, I had ALL the kids in ethe nieghborhood here off an on constantly...so you could say it went from the lodge.... to the kids. AS to clothes, I wish they would bring back the long lounge type clothes, with the flowing pant legs, halter type tops and light filmy jackets at night with them. I walked into the office one day at work, there was Linda all sun burnt to an "crisp", in pain, I said, what did you do to yourself?..and she said, I went sun bathing, to get an sun tan, I have to get darker before swimsuit time, I said, why?..she says, Shirley, EVERYONE knows "brown" fat looks miore attracive then "white fat" in swimsuits!...we started laughing, because she wasn't really what you'd call "fat" either...and if she didn't look like an lobster and then some. Gesh! |
