Debbie, the roundabouts are actually a great idea.  They're starting to build more of them in the US, at least out here.  Besides not having to stop, there a lot of stats about how much safer they are than intersections with lights or stop signs.  The reason people in America find them daunting is because it's against the nature of our aggressive driving to yield or, as they say in the UK, give way to another driver or even to slow down.  You have to slow down to drive thru a roundabout.

In Phoenix, the average speed of a car going thru an intersection, esp. if trying to beat a light change, is 55 MPH.  My husband always jokes that red means stop, green means go and yellow means go like h***!

LMAO!!! Ruth,,,I say the samething about the lights!!!Wink  I think the rounabouts are a good idea i understand them more and I dont know about the rednecks around here using them becasue we do have one small one in our mall area and no body knows what the heck to do!!!!!lol

Just don't stop for 'roadkill' or 'animal knock down' on the roundabout Debbie, or you are likely to have to make a claim on your insurance! BTW....enjoy your stay!!

only joking here debbie, these are the names of different types of pedestian crossing points on our roads lol. the hedgehog sign youll rarely see. An hedge-hog is a small rodent type animal covered in spines that role-up into a ballshape when threatened, nocternal, but wildlife protectors in some country areas dont want you to run over them on the road, so they display a warning sign.
