Looks like we're to be forced into using them soon!

Now i can see the good points, less carbon emissions ....but has anybody seen the factories that produce these?  whole areas have been left looking like the surface of the moon!  workers have been poisoned!

Is it really worth it?

Watch out in 10 - 15 years time Jason, they'll be charging us a quid a time for disposal of 'dangerous' bulbs (like your car tyres). You know, they have to be disposed of securely because of the mercury content....honest mister, trust us, were politicians! My understanding is that mercury is a by-product of electricity, so it's nice and convenient to convince us its good for us, isn't it?

As from today, manufucturers and importers are banned from supplying 'ordinary' bulbs in the UK.

i think everyone is of the opinion the low energy replacement bulbs are not as bright or good to look at and they are quite dim when first switched on (this must affect Health and Safety, surely!)

There have been regulations on the disposal of light tubes for years due to the phospherous danger, not that the man in the street cares.

The US is getting just as bad. I actually went through my apartment a year ago and replaced all of the bulbs with those energy efficient ones. Aside from all that has been said (and I agree with you btw) my electric bill did go down considerably over the course of a year.

It is true. I usually turn on a light and then leave the room for a minute or two while it lights up. lol!
