But it seems the medical profession are no further forward with this non-infectious disease which is believed to be inherited and particularly strong in the line Grandmother to Mother to Daughter, so maybe you need to to a look at your genes. If anybody thinks they are suffering with Dercums and wants to contact me privately via the POE 'Contact this User' facility then I'll be glad to discuss it. But if you don't mind telling the world then the forum will be good because it might allow others to realise what they are suffering from by way of open discussion. So what is Dercums Disease? Probably best described as a very rare disorder that reveals itself as what appear initially to be fatty lumps under the skin that become more aggressive, they grow larger as well as shrink and become tangled with the nerves in your body. They are often referred to as Lipomas. In my case they were described as linear Lipomas meaning in straight lines and as thick as my fingers embedded in the saddle of my back, rather than as usually seen, perhaps more round and rather similar in shape and size mass lesions of fat. But now they are appearing elsewhere on my body and creating unexplained occasional swelling on the lower right side of my stomach, which could be wrongly diagnosed as an appendix problem. Does this sound familiar? |

Dercums is as I say very painful, yet on the outside you wouldn't think anything was wrong. It's a disease like diabetes.....you can't see it. Currently no cure, but I am writing about it in an attempt to get the world talking. And Peter, in my case it's not fat overall but fatty lumps under the skin that are very painful....Lipomas. Angiolipomas, meaning blood running through them, very painful! |
