I explain who I am and ask can I take a message? No, I have to speak to Anna. Okay, I'll get her to call you whats your number etc? I then telephone Anna explaining the call, Anna telephones the hospital who tell her that her appointment time has changed and can she accept another? Anna telephones me, I say okay, Anna telephones the hospital to confirm.....can you see what I mean 5 telephone calls when I could have resolved it in one! And they want to save the world...eh? |

However, they can't be sure that you are who you say you are. I remember a case that made the back page news here a few years ago, where a woman's doctor called her home and when she wasn't there agreed to leave a message with the husband. The message? They were calling to confirm her appointment to perform an abortion. The husband ended up divorcing his wife because they had been trying to get pregnant (or so he thought) all the while she didn't want children and had planned the abortion with no intention of ever telling him. She ended up suing the doctor's office. Frankly, I don't blame the man for divorcing her, but it does illustrate why doctors are so careful about who they leave information with. |
