Why do cats do their 'business' in somebody else's garden - normally mine!

Arrrrggghh, b....y cats! Do they realize how much it stinks when you tread it into the house, or even sole and heel your gardening shoes, and then walk it around the lawn? Dig a fresh bit of soil and they always find it....grrrrrrgh!!

Having spent more than 21 years in the pest control industry, I was once able to use a product called Renardine, a brilliant animal repellent that actually worked, but guess what its been taken off the market. I'd like to know why...

Has anybody got any solution for this, apart from the 12 guage that is?

Perhaps owners should be made responsible somehow, got any ideas POE'rs?

Ultrasonics---there's a well known hardware store chain near Thame town hall that keeps such things.

But do they work Paul? I am actually familiar with the store to which you elude, a farming/agricultural store?

My cat has been doing this ever since I got back from my sister in-law's house in Wenatchee, I was talking to her about it, as she said she didn't like her son's new dog either, though it's an graduated puppy by now.  Best I can figure it out Ron, is my hubby took his private litter box out and is making him share one with the other cat. He don't feel her cat box....is his territory perhaps. So he's going elsewhere. Usually at the foot of my bed...sometimes on top of it...and around and around we go! Though he won't go on the bed, if I'm sleeping there, only if I'm not in it that night (I also sleep sometimes upstairs). But it does require an complete bed wash and sanitation and that takes time from my other obligations around this house. As for outside, can't say I've ever really had much problem there..and hubby cleans up after the dogs usually. They make pooper-scoopers for animals these days. They also make an an mild sedative called "Good Cat" ..and make it for dogs also...that will lightly put them to sleep every night...so you can train them better. It also works for scratching funiture and jumping up on furniture. I would say if the cat had it's own litter box if would prefer to go there, then your landscaping. Does its owner provide it an place to go?

It's just as bad when dog owners refuse to be responsible for cleaning up after walking their dogs.

I stepped out of my car the other day and nearly tread on a pile of steaming dog poop that was right on the pathway to my front door. Arrrrrggggg!

There are supposed to be "green" products that you can spray around the perimeter of your garden that will keep cats and other small animals away. It's not harmful to them but they don't like the smell.

You might check with your local greenhouse for ideas. Good luck with that, Ron.

I once heard that you can put moth balls in your garden and that would keep the cats out the smell is not so great but a friend said it worked for her:)  goodluck!

They seem to like a particular shrub Ron - when i had me garden lanscaped they stopped doing it!

I agree with Diana - had to clean 3 sets of shoes from dog mess yesterday - the owners are worse in the autumn when you can't see it in the leaves!
