This is such a sad story.

I saw it in the news. All for wanting to look better? Why can't people love themselves the way they are? Why take such a risk when you have young children?

Same old story, the grass always looks greener on the other side. We therefore cross the road to be part of what we see, but very sad that it all went wrong as in this example.

Many moons ago I dated a man (very briefly) who, on our second date, indicated that any woman he married would have to be a "10".  I can't remember if I laughed in his face but I told him I couldn't see him again because he wasn't up to my standards...too shallow.

I can't speak for men but I can say that women tend to base a great deal of their self worth on whether or not they match up to the medias current ideal of the perfect image.

When I read a story like the above it makes me angry at the media and the model herself. What kind of message is she sending to other women (and perhaps even her own daughters) when someone as beautiful and as slender as she was didn't consider herself "good enough"?

The majority of women will never come close to looking like a model; does that mean she should lock herself away to spare the world having to look at her?

It makes me think of Susan Boyle; people were so sure she would be a joke, that she had no talent, and nothing to offer  because she was not up to media standards in looks. Susan's success may not be a death knell to Hollywood's shallow standards but perhaps it's a crack in the bell.

It wouldn't let me watch the story (been taken off) but from what you have all said I think it is very sad - especially if she has young children. Why anyone would willingly put themselves through surgery when they don't need to is something I will never understand. It is bad enough having it when you have to!
