The 8.8 earthquake in Chile yesterday has generated tsunami waves all across the Pacific.  The Hawaiian Isands are on high alert right now, with civil defense evacuating coastal areas.  It's 2:30 PM here and they think waves might hit Hawaii within the next 3 hours.  They're saying tsunami waves may affect the entire Pacific rim.

Need prayers for everybody, especially in the earthquake zone in Chile.  There were numerous quakes within the last week in China and Japan too.  Makes you wonder if the planet is starting to break up.

We are watching it on Sky News right now Ruth, scarey indeed! Our prayers are for all those afffected in the area, we all have friends and family out there and it is a worrying time that's for sure. Lets hope the power of POE prayer can help again! God bless all affected.

Just been reading about the Hawaii situation on the news. Let's hope those waves can fizzle out before they hit shore/s. I don't think its the planet breaking up a bit Ruth; the Pacific Basin is pretty unstable under the ocean and seems to be constantly moving until it gets to the point somethings got to give.

From what I understand, with the  high property prices in Hawaii, there's loads of people living on the beaches; where might they all end up???

KHON in Hawaii is understandably giving this pretty good coverage.

Thank God, it didn't amount to anything.  The earthquake was pretty devastating though.

Or are we more in touch with the other side of the world due to modern day technology Stephanie? Maybe in the past it wouldn't have been possible to report on such events so quickly.

I think the San Fransico fault line could be next to make up ground under presure from these recent earth movements. I imagine your government has recovery and aid plans on stand-bye, it appeared a little slow to respond when you had the New orleans floods a while back if you dont mind me saying this. good luck anyway.

Yes, to our great shame, Michael, New Orleans still has a long way to go.  They've made a lot of progress, but no thanks to the government.  But then again, our government spends too much time "taking care" of the rest of the planet.  It's a case of misguided priorities, but that's nothing new.

As for the San Andreas fault in California, well, over there they're always waiting for the "big one" as they refer to it.  The Pacific plate sliding under the North American plate.  We could end up with either a new mountain range or a new seashore in Arizona.  lol
