This earthquake thing...aren't you glad England hardly ever has them?

They have been sitting around in various parts of the world with these big quakes recently "shaking" daily and holding their breathe for it not to be another larger one. Especially southern California right now, with the 7.2 mag quake in Mexcali, just across the border. But they kind of look to be dying down, though the window is still open for another two days with possibities that all things are not over as of yet, particualrly with Los Angelas. By "window" I mean the monthly gravitational pull upon the earth due to the moon and tides interplaying. So it is, the seers are on line with "heavy vibes" right now, there's the "speculators" also..say everyday there's going to be an "biggy"...etc. Amid it all there is some good information coming from it though...pictures also...like water coming up through the cracks of this recent quake in cement floors of houses and the streets in Mexicali. For that reason I had to look the general area up..it seems the Imperial Valley produces 41 per cent of our fresh vegetable produce, an One Billion Dollar industry yearly....and it sets 7 feet above sea level, but has mountains on both sides of it that helps it keep it dry..they irrigate with water off the Colorado Dam Yes, I agree, anything opening up to water from the Pacific Ocean or the Colorado Dam could see us without to much food kind of for an while. Californians have an lot of "fear" right now..some people spread it to others, some people try to inform to keep it reality based thinking...most everyone is asking everyone else to prepared for anything these days. I just thought you'd like to know what an calm an serene place you live in to not have to put up with an undertone of "panic" sometimes. Many are giving the area until this Friday for something else to happen..God forbid. This quake rode in an on solar anomality that hit the equator from what I am understanding. There's not much an person can do for those as of yet..in lessing them. Try to keep the faith as they say, sometimes it can sustain when others can not. Be prepared also. Go to earthboppin.com and down at the bottom of the volcano..hit  "Earthquake Central Forcasting" for thrree blogs there that are very informative, by Don,  Lowell, who I think I called Lloyd yesterday..and Petra. Thier information today was on Sumtra indonesia's 7 pointer yesterday...it gives good damage reports and what is going on in general in Lowell's web site...its' world wide, not just California. It might be soemthing to note if your an world traveller...as to what is going on elsewhere.

As far Britain is concerned, the Great Glen that runs diagonally across Scotland is a major fault line and the meeting point of the North American and European plates. They have regular earthquakes--I experienced a real shaker in Fort William on Loch Linnhe in 1974!

The really big one (earthquake, that is!) in the States is possibly going to happen along the New Madrid Fault somewhere around St. Louis, though the West Coast is always vulnerable. We've had a couple of minor earthquakes in Michigan in the past two years--I actually felt one of them--so no one is completely safe!

I don't think anyone in the world is immune from the effects of earthquakes or tremors Shirley.  Just that some are more obvious "trouble spots" than others.

I cannot imagine living in California or surrounding areas with the feeling of "when will the big one happen" all the time, I think I would be a nervous wreck!

But then there are so many places that are prone to some natural disaster or another aren't there?  So I presume the people living in the areas have to live much like the English did during the blitz, they just keep going on the best way they can. 

Ah the human spirit is a wonderous thing.

We had a tiny one here in New Jersey a few months ago. I didn't feel it though.
