In the 50's, up to the age of 11 we used to play games in the schoolyard, woods or on the street where we lived. I thought it would be interesting for members to recall some of these. It was the days before computors, mobile phones i-pods etc but we enjoyed making fun.

here are some of my memories-

School lessons would begin at 0900hrs., break for a milk-break at 1030-1045. Lunch would be taken between 1200-1300, afternoon break 1445-1500 then home at 1530-1600., this meant playtime in the school yard.

Goodies v badies (Not PC today lol) example

-Cowboys & Indians ( cowboy hat and cap-firing revolver, or Bow and rubber-tipped arrow and a feather stuck in your hair lol.

-Arabs and Foriegn legion (complete with tea-towel on head tied with a 'snake-belt lol)

-English V Germans (complete with plastic battery operated machine guns)

-cops and robbers

All good inocent fun those days, I can name lots more but I'm sure other members will wish to contribute.Smile

We had the best playground when I was in elementary school! It was way up high on a hill and we had all the best equipment! Everyone RAN for the swings! That was the hot item!!!

We always played Kickball!! That was like baseball but kicking a ball instead of using bats and a baseball.

Dodgeball was another favorite!

We had chinese jump ropes too! I love that one!

Tag was fun, as well as Duck Duck Goose!

I remember playing GI Joe with my brother and his friends and building forts in the woods!!  And when it rained my sister and I would play "Store" or "School"....even went as far as moving all the furniture in our room to make it real!!

Gosh, I remember the milk break. During the winter, the cream on top would freeze and extend above the lip; I was always so fascinated by that.

I remember playing kiss chase way back in primary school.

We played cats cradle, hide and seek, skipping (jump rope), hop scotch.

Yes, but the primary school was on Church Road by the church, when I was there. The old oak tree with the seat most of the way around, is still there, albeit surrounded by houses now. I always pop up to see it when I'm in the village.

Mr. Evans was our head master. Welsh (what gave that away, aye?) and a very good man from what I remember.

The old  school house, and two of our class building are still there, converted to houses now.

Oh, memories!

But do you remember the milk was using "turning" in the summer months, Sue, yuck.  I am still unable to drink milk to this day.

Anyone else remember playing Jacks and of course marbles, besides those games mentioned previously?

i wasnt too bad at marbles but not too good at jacks, also we would play matchbox rugby where a matchbox was cut in half and the one half would be tucked into the other  half the a rugby pitch about 3ft square would be drawn on the path the we would flick the box along the floor to score.
