There was a car load of us meeting at a house of a friend at Upper Heyford USAF base. I only knew one person on the trip.

This chap walked into the room, and a voice said "This is the man you are going to marry'. By the end of the evening we were engaged, with plans to marry the following month. Red tape (he was in the Air Force) made it dificult, and we had to wait four month.

That was 26 very happy years ago.

November 15, 1973. I was going with an old friend to hear a speaker from the Young Socialist Alliance who was visiting our university campus. My friend invited her roommate at the last minute--my future wife Shirley. After the speech, of which I remember nothing, Shirley and I stayed up all that night talking--I was a goner and the rest is history. We married on April 23, 1977 and we have been blissfully happy ever since. Love at first sight--it's real, baby!

My mother and my hubby's older sister were long time friends,(I've known them since I was about 6 years old)..I'm going to be 62 years here shortly.. and his mother anf family had just came out to live near this older daughter of hers, I met my hubby skipping school that day, last day of the year and everyone was on an field trip I wasn't really interested in, I was 14 years old then and he was going to be 17 that December...it took us some time to get things going together steadily though.  We dated for many years before getting married...that was 44 years ago ..we are kind of late bloomers in this whole thing though, I had my son 32 years ago. We have always worked and donated an good lot of our time to helping others.

I have to tell you the story of my mom and dad! My mom was in nurses training at Seton Hospital here in Baltimore. She was originally from Bridgeport, CT. One of her school mates had a date with my dad and became ill so could not go on the date with him. She asked my mom if she would take her place. So my mom did. Asked what his name was and when he arrived went to the car to greet him. She asked, "Are you Bob England?" and when he said "Yes" she hopped in the car and said "I'm your date for the night!!" One month later they were engaged, two months later they were married and 9 months later my older brother was born!! They took a 3 1/2 year break before I came along!! Smile

They were married for 53 years before my dad passed away last year. My parents are so very special to me. They may not be perfect but they are mine and I love them dearly. I wouldn't change a thing. They have made me who I am today and I am so grateful to them. My dad will have been gone one year as of June 15th, 2010. Frown I miss him terribly!

One of the other girls at college invited me to her home one Saturday afternoon for tea.

Her brother came in, motorbike jacket, red helmet with spider webs, etc., and thought she was trying to set him up with a date!! apparently this had happened before!!  No thank you - what a jerk!!

A couple of months later she & I went out on a Friday evening to meet up with others at a local club, and her brother was there.   No thank you!!

We started to go to the club on a regular basis (great bands and dancing) and her brother was there!!!  After a while - Mmm - maybe!

The rest is history!!!  Married January 44 years ago
