Traditional Magazine has upteen pictures of many of them. One house was moved with the chinking still between the logs from South Carolina to Minnesota and reset up. They simply add glass rooms between the small cabins in the same width and have some of them into the 10,000 square foot size houses now...but the cabins" history" they take with them...to make an story about the buildings they moved and saved. My great grandfather's house was moved into town, three winds built on to it and an Docotor did own it.I have an picture of the family along with neighbors, one of them being Harper Ferry and Civil War famed "John Brown" in the picture with my ancestors at their 50th wedding anniversay back on the Kansas-Nebraska line. These are not just people that want an cheap house...they are people that could well afford big new houses...but they know this is part of our heritage to preserve the houses. Our city burned down an house for an parking lot never used now...and with it.... took out an house with 1850's real silk brocade fabirc wallpaper. It was the one time "parrish house" for the Church an block away I attened as an kid..I still have my bible given to me from that church in Oct. of 1954..at Sunday School.. There was nothing wrong with that house either....this parking lot did nothing for the city over the years. It still looks "out of place" in the area.... NADA!!! Bad city planning. |

Consider there is no museum/shrine for C. S. Lewis here in Oxford and it kind of puts things in perspective doesn't it? |

In view of this article - if the row of buildings cannot be economically maintained what on earth is the point in not demolishing the lot as soon as possible and put decent housing in its place. As the article mentioned there is another house in which Ringo lived for 20 years - against only 3 months in this one - which is not going to be demolished. What a stupid thing to get sentimental about!! |
