I was listening to the radio yesterday and they played the song "Love Hurts" by the hard rock band, Nazareth. When the song was done I was shocked to hear who first made the song popular. So, I thought a it might be fun to have a thread trying to guess who first made a song popular by listing the song and the artist most commonly associated with it. I'll start; who first popularized the following song:

"Love Hurts" by the band Nazareth

James, if that is a covert attempt to say you know who it is, you've got the wrong band! Lol. ;-)

Not sure who did it first but Roy Orbison did a rather good version in the 60s. Seem to recall the Everly Brothers doing it too.

Bingo, Rod! It was the Everly Brothers. I was so surprised, because I associated the song with a hard rock band. Lol. Here is another one:

MacArthur Park / Donna Summer

I have an album by Waylon Jennings with the Kimberlies which has a very good (& long) version of this rather "off the wall" song. I think however that the actor Richard Harris did it first. His vocal style was unusual but the more I heard the disc the more I liked it."Someone left a cake out in the rain, it took so long to bake it,......."

Correct, Rod; it was indeed Richard Harris. I actually like his version much better than any other I've ever heard. :-)
