I received mine for Christmas and still haven't used it..but I see on the news last night that they were saying for the cost, it's just as easy to access "ebooks" off  your computer. Mine deals with Barnes and Noble....but amazon has thier's called Kindle...which I hear is even more unlimted asto what you can access. Any imput from POE?

I have an iPad with some of my favourite books on it, but I much prefer to hold a book in my hand and turn the pages.

Electronic books are great for taking on a trip, when you don't want to pack bulky books, but thats about it for me.

Laptops (and never a netbook) is the way to go. Any dual core will do. The laptop can do everything your desktop computer can do, and everything an E-book can do. Laptops come in all shapes and sizes, and the prices can be comparable. If you do decide on a laptop then post the model here and i'll tell you if it's a lemon.

E-books are redundant so walk away. Why they still make those things is beyond me.

I agree with you one hundred percent, Sue. I love the entire experience of reading a book, including the feel of the pages, and the smell of the ink, etc.

Before I was laid off my job in 2009, one of the partners I worked for gave me a Kindle (the smaller one) as a gift. It was great for traveling on the train back and forth to work everyday.

I am "old school" about books and love the look, feel, smell, etc. of real books.  Throw in some really beautiful illustrations and you've got yourself a treasure!  Besides, a bunch of Kindles lined up on a bookshelf simply don't  have the same ambiance as a variety of bound books with different covers, now do they?

I will never use a Kindle or anything like it! Someone was just complaining about how long it took to charge a Kindle!! HA! I can just pick up Jane Eyre and pick up where I left off!!

But that's not to say how much I'm in love with my laptop!

My e-book has games on it also..particualry "Chess".. plus you can access magazines...I still don't have it up an running as of yet...an part of it will save documents also...that you might be reading.

Dennis...I know so many people into "computers" that they look with  "glee" if I say I'm having an computer problem....my daughter in-law's cousin owns an huge shop in Portland for compters and electronics. Of course they seldom charge her fees, only for the parts....we currently around the house have three...one lap top and two pc's...though one of them is not up and running. My son and his wife have two of them. I was into computering when I was in the 7th grade...I am now 62 years old....we probably were one of the first people on the block to have an Commador 64....remember those days when you use to have to type write into them the commands for "gamming"...I sure do...then came the floppy disks...my how times have changed. Even the ninetendo's are about to change as they release an new smaller hand held version of those. by this Spring or early summer.

Kindles are good, very good!  the difference between a kindle and ebooks on a pc is the screen, computers and iphone (which i sometimes use to read books on) have back lit screens, this hurts your eyes after a while, kindles, and other dedicated readers, use e ink, the page is like a book, its really clever stuff, but it doesnt hurt your eyes, it feels just like reading a book!!

They are very good if you churn through books!  the feeling of buying a proper paper book is great, the smell the feel, and e readers can't replace this, but you can still buy the odd special book, but it saves shelf space if you get through hundreds of books!! also they are easy to take away with you, you can store thousands of books on one!!

Actually, Krissy, I usually just plug mine in overnight while I am sleeping and then I am good to go for several weeks before I need to do it again! Of course, I am not reading mine except for an hour or so at a time but still. That's pretty good battery life!

Also, I don't need wifi to connect to the Amazon store because the Kindle uses the same technology as your cell phone.  I can be out in my car in the middle of traffic and down load a new book in seconds!

Having said that, I will reiterate what I have already said, nothing can take the place of a real book. :-)
