Good question, as my small bible is considered an necessity in my backpack along with game cards and an pocketbook sized reader...you know the book as you read it can become your kindling starter for an fire..chocolate candy bars are always in it also.

Probaly an journal/pen(though I carry an small note book for messages)...perhaps an small microscope, its neat to look at butterflies and dragon flies up close..provided you don' t harm them...other such bugs and flowers...and an herbal book...I always like to check out "living off the land" type vegetation. Use to be an lady had an weekend seminar that taught people how to go out and collect thier own yeast mold and helped them make thier own bread and entire dinner off an wooden forrest setting. I thought that an challenging and good way to participate with others in making it interesting...not many people have that kind of talent these days.she also has them collect the grains and grind them for the flour also.

I also consider my cell phone an necessity but there are many many places here in Oregon where if your in the woods...there is no cell phone useage...your out of range for it. Best be prepared before you take off for the woods with everything you might need...plus. Don't forget the extra socks either. Smiles*

Ron, you live dangerously...you do know that don't you ...for one thing what makes you think with all the whiskey you'd even KNOW Diana was there..and you'd probably shoot yourself in in the foot from bad aim...keep thinking.  Diana...becareful around Ron!..let's hope he worships you because he thinks your an "moon goddess"....I just finished my third backpack...we gave our nephew "Micheal" one for "Christmas" one year after his dad an mother broke up and divorced..I often wonder if he was allowed to keep it...as I heard she sent him to an "Boy's School" saying she could not handle him. But we let him know, before we departed .. that if he joins "Boy Scouts" should he need it, he can stay in any Scout Camp across the nation for very little fee, and they let the boys stay free.... if they will work it off doing something to maintain the campgrounds...if they have no money at all...something I hope we can supply to all the boys for an long long time in thier lives. Now I have given both my grandson's one for their birthday's, last one coming up this next Month....an I do beleive we can handle them enough they don't need the so called "Boy's School" hopefully. I think their parents do an pretty good job of keeping them in line when it's needed. By the time I get done they are pretty much in the $200 range each backpack.. an hope they take care of the items...as it won't come from us any more. They will need them as they go through Boy Scout training. Grandpa has his, I have mine, and my son had his during his day.
