In fact Chris and Sarah have posted the following statement that I hope will settle members thoughts, and opinions. The bottom line is please DO NOT DELETE YOUR PICTURES in an attempt to help POE hosting costs, because it really WON'T help, and could even do damage! POE says: Any image deletion will come via the image cap system being introduced to non-premier members, and will incorporate careful selection/testing to avoid any harmful effects to the site this may cause. Our problem is that the pictures (including their titles/descriptions) are what bring in the majority of the sites' visitors. Without the high amount of visitors we get, we would have little chance of attracting any advertisers/sponsors for the site, and the little revenue we do get from people clicking the google ads and booking hotels would cease altogether. POE says: It would have a huge detrimental effect on the site, if we were to lets say delete 50% of the images! POE says: Again thanks for your concern, but the solution is not as straightforward as it may first seem. So there it is members please do not delete any of your pictures on POE for the reasons referred to above and thank you for your anticipated co-operation. We don't want to delete things as so many of us have come to the POE site because we googled something specific - it might just have been a description that matched one photograph! I think in fact the more 'words' used as descriptions on the photos the more visitors could be lead to the site. That would make POE more powerful on the internet. Google searches using matched "words" or a combination of "words" or particular descriptions for "images". We want them to find POE! and your picture might just be the one with the right words! I found POE purely by accident when I Googled Burford after returning from my trip. I also do enjoy reading the descriptions that go along with the photographs. Especially since I'm not from England, the descriptions really make the photos more meaningful. |

Please give the picture a title, and then a short but meaningful description. And don't forget, it's possible that that's how the members found you on POE in the first place. |
