I've always known Gooseberry Fool to be made with double cream.  Never heard of egg white or yogurt.

Sorry Ron, not keen on gooseberries, so I have never actually made it.

I agree Marjorie with yogurt and/or cream but never egg whites.

Nothing wrong with a good ripe goosegog or two, often the pain comes in getting the pips out of your teeth afterwards! lol

No, because you mix the gooseberry puree with the egg white, thus making it a little runnier than meringue, plus you don't bake it. 

Now of course I want to taste one made with cream.

I looked up gooseberries and evidently they only grow them in Europe.  It says they grow wild in copses and hedgrows.  It brought to mind rhubarb, which also can be seen growing wild, as well as in people's gardens.  Do they have rhubarb over there?

Strawberry rhubarb pie is to die for.

Oh yes, we had loads of rhubarb growing in the garden when I was little (and not so little). Rhubarb crumble and custard, I could down a bowl of that now.
