Posts: Joined: 1st Jan 1970 | The question...What you know about Sam Huston's cherokee wife?......Qutie and bit actually...but I did not get to see what JCPinkerston...book author has written so far. This guy, like Cornwell, does "history" also....and like me he's into the Templar Knights...amoung many others. First we get to the details on Tiana Rogers Huston.... Sam Huston was adopted by Cherokee Chief Oolooteka..whom taught him the Indian ways back thn that never left him. First time seh meant Samuel Huston, she was an young girl of 10 years old at his lodge. Sh would marry him much later on, being an widow herself. Her basical family lineage includes three outher Native American "Chief's"...and her anscestor is the famous "Will Rogers",,humorist that talked of "common sense" most the time. Oolootoka name translated means "he whom puts the drums away"...he gave to Samuel Huston the name of "the Raven" HIs first wife Eliza Allen refused to divorce Samuel, though she did go back home to her parents not accepting the factor that most Native Americans are allowed four wives at the same time. They were said to be en extremely handsome couple...both tall and thin, they said at his shortest he was described as being 6 '2 feet tall, and most say he was an little taller then even that. He built her an large cabin he named "the Wigwam" that was about 30 miles from Oolootoka's Lodge . Itwas on the Neoslo River. in eastern Oklahoma...and perhaps with his friend Andrew Jackson, one reason the Cherokee got involved with the removal days and that of the "Trail of Tears". Samuel Huston because of his olitical involvment I doubt was home all that much...he at one time was Military man, Goivenor, and Native American Ambassador for them to George Washignton. His "ties" to the British cause was one of George Washington's concerns as well during the REv. War era. Tiana's father was an "Tory" during the Rev. War. I'll get to that an bit later. Her profile... Birth...abt 1785...Death...1838, Oklahoma, her body was exhumed in 1904 and she was buried in honor at Fort Gibson Nat'l Cemetary, Cherokoo Co., Oklahoma.....father was John Rogers, Sr., mother Jennie Drew...her first husband's name was David Gentry..stated as her second cousin(LDS ICI marriage record @1806 Landerdale, Tenn..he died in an Cherokee skirmish with the Osage Tribe) Reference book "Sam Huston eith the Cherokee" by Jack Gregory and Rennard Strickland (Austin:University of Texas Press 1967) Also see Http://homepages.lycose/~dickdfox/lypersonal/index-30html. (I hoep that comes through for you OK/skl) Family notes:...Diana Rogers was the daughter of Capt. John "Hell-Fire-Jack" Rogers, a wealthy Scotch trader, who had been an Tory Captain in the American Revolution...fought in teh Battle of Horseshoe Bend..later directed Cherokee emigration to Arkasas. Her uncles were Chief John Jolly, and Chief Tallantusky....her brotherrs were Capt JOhn, William, and Charles Rogers, each operated an profitable trading post and salt works. John Rogers was the offiicial interpreter for the Cherokee agency. Diana's sisters and neices were married to wealthy cherokee merchants such as JOhn Drew, Ignatius Chisholm, and Peter Harper. She was also related to Sequoyah. Her first husband was David Gentry, a wealthy whiteman of considerable power whom removed to in 1817 to Dardanille, Arkansas..later killed in battle with the Cherokee Vs. Osage Indians. In 1838 she became ill and died of Pnuemonia. Orignaially she was buried near Wilson's Rock and her body was exhume in 1904 and reburied with honors at the Fort Gibson Nat'l Cememtary. Her family isrepresented by three Chief's and these names...Bushyhead, McSpadden, Adair, Vanns, Coddey's, Drews, Gulagers, Martin's, Fields, Wests, Foremans, and Hicks. W. C. Rogers was the last chief of the Cherokee Nation..(why they said this I'm not sure as to this day they have an Chief/SKL) ....Family buried near by her...Annie Rogers, John Flowery(prob. Lowery), Thomas Irons, Joseph Rogers, William Rogers, Nellie May, Susannah Rogers, Nicholas Miller. Note:...there are no less then three people named Tahionteeskee....which may be in reference to the same person or differnt people. #1(of the Broken Arrow)...killed at the ambush of Buchannan's Station (frintier Fort) 1792 as was Pumkin Boy, brothe rof Doublehead, Shawnee warrior Siksika, older brother of Tecumseh, and JOhn Watts (young tassel) was wounded. #2. such named person...brother or brother in-law of Doublehead. Gov. William blount was told by John Watts that he was one of his uncles "of an kind" denoting an possible marriage. Part of the delgates to Philadelphia to visit Pres. Geo. Washington. (Note: my book on Geo. Washington's life says that this expedition was part of an "blackmail" for "gifts by one man named McGilvery" whom marrriedinto another famous Native American family as kind of an "Blackmail" act in playing the British and the French... against the Revolutionists..he was later murdered...I doubt the delgation knew of this blackmail in particular though...and Washington later on gave them "ground" up north for their efforts in helping him with the war...more about later on also/skl) #3 person named such..was the head of Chota, thier Cherokee "captial "town" on Hiwannessee Island (modern day Hamiton Co., Tenn...which I understand was drowned out by an dam on the river there)...older brother of John Jolly (or half). ths man married Jennie Lowery, sister of Chief Geo. Lowery...supposedly and cousin to Sequoyah (George Gist..lineage our of Maryland of Susannah Lawson and Moredcia Gist (Guess)...his wife was said to been Lucy Benge, half sister to Bob Benge, whose uncle was John Watts. (Cherokees enbraced the matrilineal Clan system in which uncle-nephees connections were stronger then father son relationships...more about that later on also/SKL) Most this information comes from documented sources of suceeding information off the computer..and from different ancestory pages by historical societies on line also. here's the "THE REST OF THE STORY"...My research work to date....firstly the Rogers family are an British female line of the Lawson's...George Lawson m.Miss Rogers, and Selkirk bankler's daughter and secondly he married into the Moore family. I beleive thier marrying to close to kin left them with an case of "Epilpsy"...because they keep saying they are off th ePLanegent ruling lineage in England..they keep getting themselves burned at the stake as "Witches"...particularly poor Giles Rogers over there in England. Sir George Lawson was an brother of Sir John Lawson, John was admiral of his majesties Navies"...John's picture hangs in the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor's Center unless they've change it since I've been there. Both were outsted during the War of Roses by thier cousin...and you know your English history by now on that one.Sir George Lawson also owned his own ship (s)...and was more known out of New York/Maryland/Barbadoes. He also was instrumental in many New York immigrations of Germans from the Palentine in his day. It's his involment with the Moore's that eventually try to take over the Rogers first husband's terriorty of North Carolina that leads to the rape of I think Hannah (Larkin/Marston) Lawson, an wife of another younger John Lawson...through our Larkin m.Rogers-Cooper affilation of this group it ends up going back to the courts of England...and Mr. Crowinshield...wealthiest ship builder in Massachuestts.... and friend.... comes to their aide. James Moore was ousted of his gverning North Carolina...which he was supposedly doing in an most corrupt way. John Lawson apparently took his wife to New Jersey..through an handful of freind's..Thoms Cooper.."ex" of our Larkin-Rogers line and provides for her the rest of her life "secretly". Moore's drunken mob so visiously raped her, in her latter months of pregnancy that she delivered the child that night with it's eye ball hanging out of it's head. You can see this story in an book called "The Nartatives of North Carolina"...King Robert Carter was involved in Williamsburg, Va also..sending his servant named Perry to court there with the rest of them in support of them removing James Moore. You can also see in Benjamin Larkins Rev. War report the mention of the "scoundrel" James Moore. I doubt Hannah was "fit" for marriage after what they did to her...I beleive she was the daughter of Rev. Edward Marston...who becomes the line of Edward Larkin of Rhode Island..I can prove that also....took me going there in person, but I found it.. The whole affair is one hellish affair. But REv. Marston was out to get James Moore fo rthis "Pirateing" and corrup ways and he took retailiation on the Reverand...this also sounds like something else to me...an bibleical rendering of the Tribe of Benjamin in it's day also. Anyway...William Rogers of Rhode Island...has his difficulties also...I think with the "Eplispy" and the witchcraft problem also...some of his family there... goes into the Connecticut and New Hampshire area and formed the religous sect allled the "Rogerenes"...and from them I found my first mention of the "Guess" family. From them would come another trader and religious leader of the Cherokee called John Elliott also. George Lawson protgege through John Lawson..younger generation ...sets up with teh Morivorian movement of the Christainzed Delaware Indians an whole town. There is so much more to this to understand that I can't entirely write here...such as theinvolvment of Benjaimin Franklin and the immigration of the Germans into Lancaster Co/Chester County, Penn...this was set up by William Penn through is assoicated William Markham whom ruled his grounds over here..for them to be rented out out and purchased later on. George Washington then ups and buys most of Kentucky through Northern Ohio in his Land company with his brothers. Knowing full well, that it would squealch the French from obtaining the obtaining the grounds forever and moving every closer the cause of the the Americans toward the Missiissiippi River. Geroge Washington counted on the support of the indians in the REv. War..he learned and good lesson in the French and Indian War as to having them allies rather then enemies. I think this Chief JOhn Rogers could be an son of one of these two factions...either thatof Willaim Rogers..or that of the Rogerenes grooup..through Robert Rogers milita...working for Geo. Washington from Ohio through West Virginia. Robert Rogers sister is an Susan Rogers. Now for another question anwered that was asked of me many years ago...why are three Lawson's given land according to William Rogers "will" out of Philadelphia. Bartlet Lawson being most promenet amoung them. This is Phillip Lawson's line out of Changanooga, Tenn area in the Lawson Letters international...which can be seen in Washington D.C National Library Archives. He teamed up with Bill Porter of the William Lawson "the Scottish Rebel" line that has the Heritage Historical Site on line...and they are looking over Tennesse trying to piece the puzzle together. Both lines have been helping me through time also...because we don't know all the answers. We do know from Rev. War reports that an William Lawson claims that John Lawsonis his uncle and we think this John Lawson could be my hubby's line...this John Lawson line also includes land deeds of buying up ground to set up George Washington's Forts prior to the REv. War era. There is also an Thomas listed in it...I think are all son's is as said of George Lawson of Virginia...whom apparetntly worked in the Virgina court sytem as an clerk to their records recorded for the Virginia Colony. Chalkey's judical minutes books lists John's wife as "sukey" or Susan and I question if she was named after Susuannah (Lawson) Rogers...married into the "Gist" family in Maryland. One record says that Tiana Rogers was only 1/4 Cherokee, another says she's and full blood..that makes an difference...but for the most part if her father was "Scotch" it would be hard to say she was an full blood. Another article I read o fher says that she was named after the "godess" of Diana in the heavens of the " moon and hunt" as an baby because of her great beauty then....but how did the Cherokee manage that when in the article says that they don't have an translation in Cherokee symbol that accepts the "Di" part of the name...so they changed it to "Ti" instead...it was not something Samuel Huston called her from reading about her name,,he called her "hina" or something of that nature. I would think more likely with him their connections she may of been something simliar to William Lusk's daughter's name of Dianthe..she was Harper Ferry's first wife to John Brown..his second wife was an Day named person. Needless to say, I have all thse people in all my notes on both sides. Both my dad's side, my mothers, and my hubbands parents also...and my best friend's before she passed over...Ann Bauer. Her family she claims is traveling with my mother's kin also...and she says they were guides or interpeters for the military in thier day...Spears I mentioned..as inlaws to the Young family as an Reverand...and he was said to been an Tory hiding out in West Virginia. There is amoung this group an constant hidden story also of the "Masonic Lodge" also. I think we get into the "Tempar knights" trying to undersand our own "roots"...on an paper out of TEnneessee is one Robert Larkin that says that he doesn't know the names but he was always told that he came from cousins that married each other and they were all Masonic Lodge members and this legacy is an very old one..back years before they became an popular subject to discuss. I have at this time....John Larkin m. Sarah McAdoo...daughter of Rev. John McAdoo.....an brother I beleive to James Larkin...possibly married to Catherine Kreider Gerligher...the latter says she was an wife of his, I don't think so myself...I think that he was her mother's kin...her father was Peter Krieder.. her and her sister and brother were left orphans at the hands of the French and Indians...and were bound out as church wardens. Thsi would be the DAR James Larkins. There is another one named Thomas Larkin...I think he is the methodist minister...one of three called the "Bishops of Methodism"...is curcuit was Pennsylvania. He married I've seen both and Elizabeth Martin and and Elizabeth Ellis. These three men are brothers...they have an younger brother named "mathew" that might be "Mathew Murphy"...or an namesake that use to live in an hisotrical house across from the Oregon State Capital that might of been torn down since....for I hear nothing of it these days. Joseph Murphy married sister Jane Larkin...and Nancy may of later been "Nancy" Ward the an ambassador for white captives by the Indians to release them. her daughter married Col. Joseph Martin whom was the first Indian Agent and Governor of the territory of Tenneessee. His first wife was Sally Lucus, widow...and I had one married to James Lucus...and it may be that hewas and brother to Robert Lucus...as he shows up in this area of Tennessee also. Lucus co., Ohio is named after him. The only family I find connected to the Larkin would be Robert Rogers...besdes this Robert Lucus. William Lucus married Elizabeth Pierce may be part of them also. As the Pierce/Price raised I believe William Rogers daughter and son..by his daugther Elizabeth Rogers.I have asked the family emboriled over finding who our James Larkins is...to note that in William Rogers Rev. War report that there is an debt owned to an James larkins appearing name for wintering his cattle over winter for William Rogers....I would think this man to be the son James Larkins brother of these toehr kids just mentioned, but rather it is the DAR James Larkins I am not sure...until I can research it further. Dianthe Luck is the only person I am familiar with in any of these people's names fro which Tianna Roger Huston could of been named after...and unless they had access to education back in those days, I doubt much they 'd know of an Greek goddess to have anme theri daughter after one...let's see..whe was born 1785 or therabouts. Now, let' sgo back into the Mengelons...Native American Indians along the east coast at the time of the founding of Jamestown. Once again...DNA reports are saying that they can be traced back to the the biblical lands by legacy....they are not full blooded Native Americans either. They are not "red skinned"...they are not "blacks" they are an darkish Olive colored skin...thae many before DNA were calling mutlattto's. It would be hard to tell an colored line these days with the interracial marriages going on...but as an "kid" I can remember that and true blood "black" legacy always had an "tint" of white to their skin if you saw their hands...same of their feet also. Then only other kind of dark mediterrean skin is that of the Germans...said to be off the Tribe of Daniel in the Bible. With these people of TEnneessee...and the native American's, particularly the Gist/Sequoyah...they took to wearing turbins in thier day...I beleive this comes from the immiagration to Rhode Island of our country's first "jewish" race. So I do beleive they were most likely Masonic Lodge memeber because the TEmplar Knights "protected" the Old jewish familypriest's...and most likleyt they helped them to bread their horses with Arbians...and I feel I can say this for my father's being iwth this group that they did so to sell our Government it's horsesfor the Pony Express. The only other suggestion may of been from the connection to the Barbadoes area..as I think the women down there wore turbins to carry things on thier heads, but doubt the make Warriors of most Native Americans would do such an thing. native Americansalways used to tie their "red" peices of "prayer ties" on trees. Bu tif indeed this Rogers line is from Rhode Island with an Jewish influence you could see them perhaps adopting an tuban..and I think the name of "Turk" without this family and our supports this. Why was an John Rogers in this area....Well, the one I believe to been the brother of Ann Rogers..Cooper---Larkin, was also into the West Indies Company(maybe called the East India company also after the so called Boston Tea party)...and I beleive he was there exporting an very valuable crop to India at the time...called Gingseng...it at one time grew wild all over TEnneessee until him and some Native American's helping him also made an bundle of money off shipping it to India. This John Rogers would of been an uncle to Thomas Oliver Larkin, whose home in Monterey, California is an historical home, (he was the first American Ambassador o tthen "Spanish" California) and his father Thomas Larkin was maternal kin to the Pierce/Price/Oliver family. After my great Aunt Katherine passed away...they took the market place near his home and renovated it, whom people I was talking to at one time also...then they did as I asked and wrote it up in an issue of Sunset Magazine...besdies sending me extensive papers on his chidlren's education in Hawaii. Which goes to show the extent of their association with the natives of the area...any area. My question...how they get into this "Spanish" association...it was wa prior to the Alamo episode. Even Sequoyah suppsedly died in northern Mexico.I knew thomas Jefferson went to South American one time also...he came back an insituted his way of gardening in the fashion of layering down the dirt as they do in terrences....Our Racheal Reed's sister married in Iniff family, it' sin John Reed's will, which we have also now. When I went to Williamsburg, I picked up their book on the Bruton Parish Churchyard, knowing it had been an "family" burial area as well as one for Williamsburg in general..tombstone #89....South facing...Sceince mourns the loss of a devoted and inftigable and mrevelous industry: the wrothy friend of men lik eSir H. (Wallen and Wray: Richmond) I conclude this now...I have our "Lett's" family of Racheal Reed (Read) and his was the first million in his area of faming in the midwest many years ago...had many wives though. Seeme dot have died in childbirth for the most part...I have no idea if he was part Native American either...I know "Reeds" (Read) were "Quakers" that turned Baptist and Methodist in her generation though. Her other sister married John Mitchell. This is all very well documented information and there is an Pierce/Warren/Washington line stems from them also....they have been nnicely holding me while this person who follows me around wrecks havoc dis crediting me and changing things to suit themselves. Someday I hop eto get all the pieces settled on my own questions. It gets harder every year. Paritcualry as they don' t teach the old records. I can not find an name yet that George W. Bush has not atttached himself to in our family..which I know is an blantant "Lie"...and came about during his Presidency....I would guess to "control" wealth in the family. Bush has never BEEN an Masonic member that I know of...but he rather works in association by death attachments to do his work in life. That is not God's way...an truth I beleive will prevail some day.Immortailty comes with an higher understanding. I close fo now. Any questions?

James...... Racheal Reed's "Letts" family was the first millionaire of his day in the midwest.... His legacy is on-line also. If there's anything yoy don' tunderstand, let me know...I'd rather do it in snail mail...I can't access my email again...something else whomever does for me these days. Maybe it is George Bush at work..reember when he wanted to be able to incarinate people that he wanted to elemintate through saying they were mentally ill...well, if you MAKE someone appear that way...no problem Heh? Such pure asses... of the highest means of stupidtiy. So why do you think thesepeople chose or "allowed" Obama to be our President...so if he he "failed" in pulling this country out of debt..... they could say....Yep....well he was an Colored "Boy"...all the way...and yes, Bush is " racist" or he would of never called "Kenny Lay... "Boy"... like he did in reference to him after he won his election. he si also an woman's secregater as well....could care less what "women" think and most likley why "Sarah Palin" is shown in pictures now looking more like an "hooker" then politican. Though even I wonder if she's political material. Running rural "Alaska" is not the same as the Nation...if there's anything left of it... after these constant disasters going on. They need to stop also...we need normal weather true, but not just for "some" of the people. I want to say something else also..there has been an "movement"...an silent one....to bring about connections with "God" through the Tribe of Benjamin...not that of the truth...being the House of Judah....the lineage of David. Teh tribe of Benjamin was at one time given the territory of "jersusalem" and they corrupted it. Battle ensued...and the remainder of their Tribe moved into Greece and comensed there politically. But they are NOT of thehouse of "JUDAH"....and ther in lies an basic problem that is becoming oen of the world's in an way. I think they want an "Piece of the pie" in God and influence thereof...but they have as yet to prove themselves worthy of it..and even then it will be to the "HOUSE of JUDAH" that legacy belongs to concerning biblical days. I do not know if this is the "reason" for all th emiddle eastern troubles or not.I would guess that OIL is much of it also...for all thier oil fields and wealth, have they made the world an better place to live? Do they go about "Planet earth" as an entity of living liffe from "God" or one of upsurging one another and war and persecutions against others. You can't talk "peace" with an loaded gun ready to shoot....you can't make an world of God, out of the ideas that lead to an pile of hot sun baked sand either..stained with blood. Until we world wide stop burning our forrests and replant them and put things back like God gave them to us...we will never be "Happy" nor truly prosperous. For you see, God for the most part gave us what we needed to survive many years ago...in an short 300 years we have all but wiped them off the planet trying to exploit everything for an dollar/money. Native Americans are right on that aspect. We are going down the tube me thinks in days ahead...it's already here. There was an time you could truly live off the land, freely...no more. That alone will take us into andictatorhsip..marxist type regiem...and I think Bush just helped it all along very nicely...and Obama does also...mostly from lack of understanding what it really takes to "live" when the electric grid goes down and the seeds are modifies into "poision" and the water "polluted" and the trees all chopped down...pile of sand...just like the moon, mars, who knows what other planets that are also inhabitable go get all the planets and line them up...and look at what beauty there is in our earth...how life is to teem "freely" for all. I go for now. |

Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | quotePosted at 05:04 on 7th September 2011 yeah Ron, my intruder just "sucks" in my line of work..you know what I mean...its somethng else to write something this long and something that is but short one liner...and have mispells. James....This Neoslo River in Oklahoma...the Seneca tribe of whom the remmenats of the Delwares joined and the "Five Nations" league also...the true "makers" of our "Constitutional" way of life...had an Sandpiper Clan..it was known as "Neslio". Most all these tribes had some kind of an wolf clan and an tuttle or tortiose clan also...Clans had an direct affiliation with each other from different tribes...their members could not marry within their own Clan. This was true of the Potawatomi Clan...my chief I mentioed.. he was an much later Chief and is not in most of their records on-line, but they wrote an whole book about him back east. They were one of the tribes that were in the Treaty of Greenville, Ohio in 1795. I found some information on an Thomas Davis that sounds like someone knows the family and put them all together...and false report...it certainly isn't jiving with any other information I have on this family...does an Reverand that was at George Washington's death bed with his family..sound like an guy that would would go to Penn. in 1794.... to help quell the whiskey Rebellion...I doubt it. Tiana Rogers belonged to the Echota Cherokee Tribe...there are others. Chief Hanging Maw was thier leader. My anscestor was born in Tenn. 1794 according to the information Rachel Reed gave at hsi death and on his land claim deed out here in Oregon. Many think "Smith Co., Tenn, but I'm being "open minded" about that right now..It's true one of his son-in-law's had the Cabel name of Virgnia/Nelson Co., Ky... and is said distant kin of Pocohantas. But I go for now. If I run across anything of interest I'll post it. In an materarchical Clan the female side lives with the mother's side and they support her and her..her husband ussually in an dowery like fashion. If they divorce...she still stays with her mother's side and " kicks" him out. The son's are more taught by thier maternal uncles then an father-son relationship also. They can adopt thier captives into the family...only if they have lost family members equally. The tribe as an whole supports the Clans...but the Clans while they pick the Chief's...are pretty much into raising the family...and daily concerns with it. By the time the boys are 16 years old...they become "warriors" and it is at this time they can take on various wives...by mutual agreement between both sides. Because the women are supported by the maternal side...it's not as if the warrior has to support the wife either as an individual...his means of support then is by hunting and fishing, and protection of the entire Tribe...and providing food for the Clan. So you can see, like an sailor perhaps, an "woman"in every port he travels to. How's that sound to ya...laughs* But then again, he relies on this wife's "support" also. Which is really messing everything up in the male dominated world of money...in today's day and age, where women seldom make the money and have the benefits as given to an man. If she has to work to supply money...she can't be raising her kids at the same time hardly either. For that she needs family help. So maybe despite beign replaced in bed at every port...the idea of the mother society has its rewards also. You do realize that every month....when she has her "special" little time of mother nature calling....she has to depart from all the members in her tribe and stay to herself, because they considered her " unclean"..if she had small ones...she'd have the need of help...of someone taking care of them also. All these gals have now is...Chocolate?...laughs* Now you raise your kids, buy the house,...support him also.. work work work....and for that you get cramps once an month and thank your lucky stars.... and get an bar of chocolate. No wonder women have "PMS" these days. |

Posts: Joined: 1st Jan 1970 | James also asked me something about "The Almo",,,it started out as an few crude huts on the on San Pedro Creek, it was moved to the east side of the river and destroyed by an hurricane in 1724. It was originally suppose to been an home for priest's and an collection of offices..work on the mission stopped about 1793 when the priest were replaced by civil authorites as the politcal enviroment changed in the area.Mexican troops took it over in 1821. It was named after El Almo, an town in Coahila, Mexico. After Mexico won her indepenence from Spain in 1835, Mexican Gen. Martin Perfecto de Cos was sent to San Antonio to quell rebellious Texans, he made the Mission into an fortress, he was though under constant siege by one Stephen Austin, which lead to an seige of the mission ..he surrendered the Mission to them on December 10,1835. This enraged President Santa Anna, and he plotted his retailiation...by Feb. 1836, the town was guarded by 150 men under the command of Col William Barret Travis (note:..the entire name is Lawson/Rogers affilated/skL) They included two men of reknown David Crockett and James Bowie. All these men were an tough lot, but Santa Anna arrived, thier reinforcements did not...fewer then 20 were citizens of Texas, the rest were Mexicans from near by Gonzales....Travis called out "Victory or Death!..of the 189 defenders at the Alamo..Santa Anna sent his 3,000 men. Indeed the Texans fought to thier deaths, resorting down to hand to hand combat..all but five defenders died in the inital onslaught...they were later executed. The bodies of the Texans were burned. It's estimated they had kiiled 600 of Santa Anna's force. The story survives because they allowed the women, children and servants to live. Naturally the overwheling odds in numbers on each side most likley led to the remberance of the Alamo...and the Spanish-American war that ensued afterwards. I think you should know that Stephen Austin started the colonization of this area of Texas, and an "colony" of "Americans granted permission to buy and settle land for 300 Americans, all sympathic to Spain in 1821. Having been granted 200,000 Texas Acres of his choice. They left Missiouri for San Antonio July 15, 1821...the Mexicans had staged an Revolution themselves in 1822, ousted Spain and nulified this grant of land, Austin hurried to Mexico City iin its defense, an year later he was allowed to remain on is land... provided that every settler became an Mexican citzen and every settler had to embrace the Roman Catholic faith. By 1825, the colony was so prosperous tha Austin had to create four districts for it. In 1833, he decided that Texas could no longer conintue as an Mexican Colony...he was arrested and held in jail for two years...when released...he called for war with Mexico..and got it. Like all "true" Americans I've ever read history on...he lost everything but his life in the conflict. Austin ran against Sam Huston for the state's new presidency of Texas but lost, Huston still made him his Sec. of Stater, he died at age 43, honored by his fellow Texans. Orignially an Louisiana Lawyer became the "Father of Texas". This book on "Forts" also give an "bio" on Santa Anna also, it describes him as an "power seeker" professionally...with an lot of personal faults, he was ousted twice in Mexico..and forced to retire from office..he was defeated one time by Samuel Huston and an second time by Gen Winfiled Scott..he died in 1876...two years after being allowed back into Mexico. Again he died blind and penniless. My own take on "history" tells me that very few "leaders of the world" die an peaceful contented death....they give all, monetarily and physical health.. and "family ties" in many casesto become ledgendary later on... be it good or bad. |

All this of course does not answer my questions...how was our family "tied" into Mexico/South America around this time, and through whom..."Spain" maybe???? mining of Gold??George Washington???Templar knights/Masonic lodge???? Catholicism maybe???? That I have yet to find. |

They were all very much Freemasons in those days with the "ties" to the Hapsburgs also. Maxamillian was eventually de-throwned himself in Mexcio, but he would of been an brother or nephew of Mary Queen of Scots. SantaAnna an dhis brother in-law whose jurisdiction it was to guard the The Alamo..before the Texans got their hands on it were true "Mexcians" of an sort for their day as to Mexico's leadership. No doubt when the "Trail of Tears" came about...George Gist went for help to Mexico...though they didn't get it apparently. It was probably the Lucus family of Ohio that helped them recognize to escape into Canada..in part reason why the war of 1812 also. My ancestor naturally came to Oregon..which was under the British the as an Northwest Territory. Very much concerns the Government here also. Lawson/Larkin/Martin families. Yes...this European Royalty and that of England/Scotland were indeed "Templar Knights"...as was Washington and his friend Layfette. I would guess that most likely so was Lord Fairfax in the English Civil War or there shortly afterwards. You deserve your drink after having to read all this James...have at it!Enjoy. I might remind you that the "Mason's" beleive in immortailty of God and Jesus..and his family...and the Jewish High Priest's...so was "Christopher Gist"...an person of the day..or "spirit" of Christ manifested on earth? go ahead an laugh...and man they called something like Dewaga appeared to the Delaware Indians at the beginning, saying he was from the creator and helped them to set up thier political Tribal rules..one of peace for everyone...it is from these rules that both Benjamin Franklin and George Washington gleamed for our American Consititution after the Rev. War. He showed them the the first use of what we call "checks and balances" in use to make decisions for Tribal matter. Franklin was the Indian's first representative sent to negoiate their treaties by Washington...in part because he was an quaker...he refused to "bear arms" against them..they could trust him not ot shoot them at site.Franklins wife was Deborah Read. I would think our Reed (REad) family somehow connected...as they also lived in this area of the Delaware's and also were having kinship with Washington, of those lines als being Freemasons at the time. I read last night that the Freemason's did not enspouse the "Catholics" of Rome...in their day...and thier massive subjection of rulership either...but they still played an large part on their history with the "ties" to France. Franklin's son-in-law was an Blache'...the Pope went so far as to send an French priest out of Canada into to the Pacific Northwest supposedly by the name of "Blanchette" to Baptist an Indian Chief's son here. They don't say which one though...but my estimation would be his last name was "Lackey"...whom died an is buried at the Nisqually River. Supposedly "Chief Lackey" was named so from my grandfather being with his parents at his birth...but there was an earlier one in Tennessee. Was he an "Leni-Lapi" Delaware line way back when?...hum....or was he the Native American captive grandson of Col. James Martin...or was he an " Larkin" originally? ...in which case he could of been William E. Larkins ancestory...my mother's direct lineage. With them comes an Judicial system also...as well as the Catholic influence...but I find none of them "Catholics" amoung our family lines...something true of John Lawson in Kentucky also. |
