While walking by the Thames yesterday, I met an elderly chap (much like myself) who asked me the riddle ....  What is the connection between a drover's dog and the river Thames ?.....wait for it....It runs between Oxon and Berks.

Do any other members have any equally feeble jokes based on place names to contribute ?

Nice start for a new thread Edward, something we do need...so here goes with my initial effort

Dukinfield was presumably named by some settlers who literally saw a duck in a field ! ! !!

But what was the chap who named   Ramsbottom    thinking of or worse still . . . looking at ! ! !

There must more loads more of these as well
