For a very long time our opinions of insurance companies are hardly worth documenting, except that they do need to be discussed because some poor souls will/have been totally ruined, having paid their insurance premium for many years in the belief they are covered for any eventuality. In reality, if you have a problem and make a claim you are likely to see the insurance company 'wriggle factor' that becomes effective having made the claim.

The insurance companies will search the small print relentlessly for the slightest excuse to NOT pay out, such as in a fire that we had during the early days of our married life many years ago. The contents of a clothes basket and a settee were in fact 'melted and smouldering', but the insurance company said we were NOT covered as the items didn't burst into flame!

We were covered for FIRE and  neither the basket or the settee actually caught fire, they didn't burst into flame!  We didn't get a penny and so my opinion is that they are a bunch of crooks who should be investigated like the banks have been, they need to be brought to book because they are scamming us at every opportunity!

Same in Spain Ron last year I went to the display cabinet to obtain a glass opened the door one of the glass shelfs fell off the pegs damaging glass and china items to the value of hundreds of Euros, claimed on the house policy gave the exact detail how it happened you have guessed it NOT COVERED

Explanation by the insurance company if it had been someone who had bumped into the cabinet then the goods would have been covered by the policy.

Like yourself Ron it does not pay to tell the truth to insurance companies Licenced thieves vagabonds and s------s comes to mind

It's the same with extra or extended coverage they try to get you to buy for just about everything. Not worth it usually. Because when you read the fine print you find that it doesn't cover what expires off the original policy anyway. Which 9 times outbof 10 is exactly wheat you would want the extended policy for.

Yes, wealthy insurance companies have been notorious for trying to wriggle out of paying out .One bad area is flood damage.

On the other hand, many people try to defraud the insurance companies by staging fake accidents and fake theft.

I live on a hill and the last two floods didn't come anywhere near my house. The insurance company doubled my annual insurance premium to help pay for damage to houses that were damaged by the last flood.I shopped around and found a better deal. The insurance companies made record profits since increasing the premiums.
