Drunkeness and drugs now seems to be 'a way of life' here for some and this is in a Country that is struggling to pay it's National debt, so the question is should these people be made to pay for their treatment? Should there be a three strike policy before the government steps in to force therapy? It really was nothing like this in my day. We went out, enjoyed ourselves and went home (not necessarily quietly) but without causing damage and/or making trouble that affected others. What say you members, what's it like in your Town and/or City hospitals? |

Solution Issue a 1 month amnesty and introduce a this new ruling First offence let off with caution Second offence 500 pound fine payable before release. Third offence 3000 pound fine payable before release. Fourth offence 5 years custodial sentence. Otherwise everyone lives are going to made such a misery and people are already afraid to go into the Towns at night.

Fortunately they aren't the sort of places that attract the young, no music, no TV's, and landlords and owners who would kick someone out at the first signs of trouble. Town, Halifax being the nearest is another matter. It is the centre for mayhem and madness on a Friday and Saturday night. There are an unbelievable number of pubs and clubs for such a small town, thus, it attracts idiots from everywhere. The pubs sell the drinks at stupid prices with offers to incite people to drink to excess. We have a lovely theatre, but it is in the centre of town and decent folks are frightened to go there on an evening. Drunken jobs (both male and female) roam the streets from early evening until the early hours. Visit to our local A&E on a Friday & Saturday evenings and you can guarantee that 90 per cent of the people waiting are drunks with either drink or drug related injuries. The Police are called to the hospital on a regular basis to deal with assaults on the staff, and indeed assaults on other patients who are waiting there for a genuine reason. Put these people to the back of the queue in A&E and you are left with the problem of them being around for longer causing more trouble, but then you ask yourself why should they get threatment ahead of a genuine accident. I don't know the answer, the problem has been around for so long and is getting worse. But I do know that the NHS should not be footing the bill for these morons. In truth if you want a night out in a town/city around here the city centre of Manchester is a much nicer place on an evening than our small town of Halifax.

When I was in the army we all used to meet in the pub for a chat but not once was there any drunks, we did not have enough money for that even if we wanted to but we still managed a good time enjoying each others company. so why oh why do they have to get drunk, what a waste of money and often tax payers money.

They have the mindset that getting drunk and not being able to remember anything is having a good time. Something wrong with the wiring in the brain somewhere. |

Another thing it isnt what they drink outside --its what they drink inside before they go out.--you could go on couldnt you if they doubled the price they would find the money somewhere.

Answer, the tax payers! And yes Ruth as you say, they go out with the sole purpose to get drunk, not like we did to have a good time. Whats wrong with them, they have a decent way of life, but seemingly can't destroy it quickly enough. |

They will waive tow truck charges it get it back to your house form you after the first couple of times...and sometimes on Holidays. Drugs is the issue these days...they haven't come up with an test for that one as yet. So many arrests and you get your diver's licesnse suspending for so many days also. Have never had any problems with the police over drinking an driving...but I have been hit straight on by an drunk going 70 mph, totalled my car. Nice policeman had me in front of his air conditioner in his car hoping I wouldn't go into shock,,and if course, I had no car to drive home, they called my husband at work to come an get me....the steering wheel was sitting in the middle of the car ..and that side of the car was twisted up in the air. Had it not thrown me to the passenger's side of the car...I'd be dead now. They told me I opened the passenger door and fell out on the ground...and don't remember it ever happening. People helped me to the corner of the street, before I really knew where I was at. This was at noon...lunch time this occurred...not an Friday or Saturday night by any means. |

Neither of which were alcohol related just accidents but what does concern me is the number of young drivers risking their lives with excessive amounts of alcohol consumed. I know when I was in my teens if I had ever been intoxicated with alcohol I would have received a GREAT SMACK from my parents my brothers and sister knew the boundaries but that sort of discipline has gone out of the window, it did me no harm whatsoever. The situation is akin to training a puppy if you are not firm and do not chastise with reason when it does wrong then eventually it will bite you |

I found living in the UK that there seemed to be more public anti social behavior and a younger group they have no conscience and you have to be careful to intervene because they will retaliate. |
