Thank you Gemm and Paul. You're advice is going to be very helpful.

I can't wait until the weather gets above freezing and I can get back out in the field to practice. Until then, I'll try and lure some garden birds in and have a go at them.

Hi Sue.

For the most part i use the sports mode on my 400D to take my bird pictures.  That way i can concentrate on the subject and let the camera worry about the exposure etc.  It might not be the classic method, but it works for me. You have seen the results here on the POE site so you can judge for yourself.

I appreciate the advice too, everybody.  I just got a new camera and I need all the help I can get, especially with bird shots.
