How to Recover Accidentally Deleted Photos from a Digital Camera

My wife accidentally deleted all the photos on her camera's memory card when she pressed the wrong button on her digital camera. She took the camera to a camera shop and the sales person used an expensive computer program to retrieve all the photos from the camera's memory.

Back in 1979 before digital cameras were invented, my father took a lot of photos in Great Britain and Europe.When he returned to Australia and had his photos developed, all the photos were blank.He wrote a letter to the airline company and asked if x-rays could delete photos and was told they couldn't. All he had left were some postcards.I don't know what he did wrong.Maybe he left the lens cap on but I doubt it. Fortunately, with  a digital camera we can recover photos.

The comments regarding camera memory cards apply equally to any computer storage media...deleted files are not actually deleted but are flagged as being disk space which may be over-written. This is why recovery software might sometimes only recover a fragment of the original image, particularly if the card has continued to have been used.  Having said that, it is amazing what can be recovered, even from cards that have been re-formatted.  I have used a programme from SanDisk called RescuePro with great success, which used to be bundled free with some SanDisk Memory Cards. Unfortunately, SanDisk no longer support this programme, but there are many others.
