Hi again Andreas.

I notice that you also mention Tideswell in Derbyshire on your list. I have a very good friend who knows this area really well, and although not a member of POE, and indeed he doesn't live in the area, he has kindly offered this information for you.

Tideswell  is one of the most ancient settlements in the central Peak District.  It was the site of the Great Courts of the Royal Forest of the Peak during the reign of Edward I. Some of the buildings along the main street have foundations which date from this period. The main attraction though is the magnificent 14th-century church, known locally as 'The Cathedral of the Peak'.

Eyam is also in the Peak District National Park. The village is famous for an outbreak of the bubonic plague in 1665,  the villagers chose to isolate themselves rather than let the infection spread. The village was founded and given its name by the Anglo-Saxons, although lead had been mined in the area since Roman times. It's economy now relies on the tourist trade and it is promoted as 'the plague village'.

Buxton, a spa town in and also well worth a visit. It has the highest elevation of any market town in England. Buxton is known as the gateway to the Peak District National Park.

Hope you find this information useful.

Thanks, James. I kind of figured... It's just that we found a good place there for an overnight stop on the way from Llandudno to Windermere.
Rufford Old Hall is nearby, and after that we'll probably drive through Bowland towards Sizergh Castle.

You are very welcome Andreas, I will no doubt be in contact with my friend this afternoon, I will thank him then.

You will not be disappointed with Rufford Old Hall, we made our second visit there earlier in the year, well worth spending a couple of hours there.
