Hi,

My name is Mark Dunn and I live in Berkshire UK.

As you can see from the photographs that I have recently

submitted my main interest is in Churches and grave yards,
but I also shoot various other subjects, so that I am always

learning or trying to learn new ways to photograph.

My interest in photography started back in 2005 from going out walking

at weekends, and taking opportunist snaps on my mobile phone.

After a while my friend bought a FujiFinePix S5500 camera

which wetted my appetite and after a few months of watching

him take photo’s I decided to buy one too.

For two years I snapped away with my Fuji honing my camera skills and
around mid 2006 I started trying my hand at “Infra red” Photography

using a Hoya Infra red filter attached to the front of the camera.
I managed to get some good shots and with the help of PhotoShop

was able to tweak the final images to have a cyan sky and snowy white

grass and foliage.

Then in 2007 I realised that I had learnt as much as I could with my Fuji

and found that I was hitting limitations of what I could achieve for certain shots. So after a lot of research I decided to by my Nikon D300, as this

camera allowed me to get the shots I required.

Armed with my D300, I decided to try my hand at “HDR” (High Dynamic Range) photography too, with the D300 I could bracket 9 shots at different exposures and then could merged them into one file that mapped  the full range of luminance across the final image.

Currently, I try to get out at least once at the weekend to go out for a walk,

and always take my camera with me. Since the inclusion of a battery grip

for my camera, the weight of my rucksack has increased but this is a small price to pay to be able to get good shots and not run out of battery power.

If you are interested in seeing more of my images here is my website:
http://www.mdunn.co.nr

If you have any questions or want to ask about anything HDR or Infra red

please feel free to ask.

Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark - interesting introduction. I also take my camera everywhere at the weekend - I have a Nikon D60 - I know what you mean about the extra weight of carrying it! My love of photography started at 8 years old when my parents bought me one of those Polaroid instant cameras! Welcome to the site and I look forward to seeing more of your lovely photos.

Welcome, Mark:)  I love your b&w shots on your site!

What piece of sw do you use for your HDR processing?  Also, why couldn't you just set different exposures for the mapping within the program instead of taking several photos ?  Sorry about my amateur questions but I've recently stepped into HDR and am avid to know more about it.

Welcome to the POE website from Anna and Ron, Mark. Check out the rest of the website but join in here whenever you can. It's a great opportunity to meet a whole load of like minded people who become part of the family as they submit their pictures. Interesting introduction incidentally, making it easy for the members to ask questions of you, but that's exactly what it's all about isn't it?....That's the power of POE!!

Welcome, Mark!  I'm afraid most of that went straight over my head!  That's because I'm a rank amateur with a simple Kodak digital camera.  Wink  Seriously, though, I wish you a warm welcome to the most enjoyable site around.  I, too, enjoy churches and graveyards, especially English ones.  I also love your black and white work.  It brings out so much architectural detail, doesn't it?  I look forward to viewing your other photos.
