Hi, this is Brount from Toronto, Canada.

I would like to take day trips to visit one or two of the most beautiful villages in England while on a nine day vacation to London right after Christmas. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Richard, welcome to POE from Anna and Ron. The most beautiful villages in England? Are you trying to start a war between us members? Respectfully suggest you look through the many thousands of pictures on POE and try to decide from there. Anyway, enjoy the website, forum and members who no doubt will comment here.

hi richard, tough one this, so many areas to choose from. Right after Christmas means january? mmmmm probly snow on high ground and in the north of the country. some pretty pics there but traveling may be a problem. xmas lights, decs and trees come down about the second week. gardens and woodlands sleeping for winter. daylight hours 8am to 1600 (4pm) Country pubs warm, log fires etc but quite followng Chrismas. if you are based in london, store 'sales' and museums your best bet. i expect the cotswolds would still be an atraction if the winter sun is shining. Good Luck!

Hi Richard, welcome to the site. You can be in the Cotswolds in less than 2 hours from London, and there are plenty of beautiful villages in and around that region - see a list of cotswold town and villages here.

I highly recommend Castle Combe, and the National Trust village of Lacock, both of which are very close together (within 20 mins drive of each other) and well worth a visit, especially if you plan on a trip to the beautiful georgian city of Bath whilst you're here. Good luck, and please keep us informed of what your final plans are.

Hi Richard.  Salisbury is quite lovely and only about a 90 minute train ride from London Waterloo Station.  The town is very charming and has a wonderful medieval cathedral, with the highest spire in England.  The Salisbury city buses run out to Stonehenge, and I'll bet it's lovely there in winter, and with fewer tourists that time of year as well.  Hope you enjoy your trip.

Hi Richard - think the Cotswolds are a good suggestion. There are lots of beautiful villages relatively close together there.
