Sue writes: Now when I go home, I will have to visit Ron, he can be my new dad Hey, hang on a minute Sue I'm not that old, and besides would you want to be across my knee for a spanking? Lol (Perhap's you'd better not answer that, this site is family friendly). Joking apart Sue, you know you are a very dear friend and all the banter is only ever said in fun. I also admit to being very proud of the fact that Chris and Sarah have put this website together (POE) and that so many enjoy it, get their 'fix' as described above and throughout. I guess some of us who live here in beautiful England probably don't appreciate fully what we have. |

If you're missing England, or just adore it as I do, then you've come to the right place. I'm a native American originally from the "Deep South" (Alabama), who spent 10 years in New Mexico and now live in Northern Virginia near Washington DC. But my heart truly belongs in England. I've visited there only twice, but from the first day I felt such a deep kinship as if I had found my true home. I suppose in a way I had, since my ancestors came from England, Scotland and Ireland. Even though there are some very pretty towns and countryside here in the US, there's nothing to compare to the narrow hedge-lined lanes, cobbled streets, thatched Cotswold stone cottages, rolling green pastures full of sheep, the pubs, the shops, the people, the history. I do hope you will be able to enjoy a visit "back home" one day. I continue to long for my next visit, whenever that might be. |

Actually I admire the pluck of people who emigrate, because I used to get homesick on the second week of a two week holiday, I would not want to even live in another County unless it was the one which we border on, in other words a real wimp LOL |

Krissy, we lived in Kinnelon for a bit then moved to Ledgewood near Rockaway, both in Morristown county, Really nice areas, very green. I used to love driving back and forth from Ledewood and Kinnelon, passing through a little town Denville. The back roads were a little like home. I would see turkerys and peacock and little red barns, no quaint villages with thatched cottages though, but very nice. I never missed these things much back there as the weather and greenery was similar. So it must be AZ!!! |

I can't say I know how you feel, living in a new country so differerent from you own. But I've visited England twice now and I'm homesick for it too! I'm originally from Pennsylvania, and a lot of the pictures of the cities and towns on this site remind me of PA, and of course we had the four seasons there too. I've been in Arizona since '82 and it took me several years to get used to it. But I like it here now well enough. Yes, the summers are unbearable, but I love the winters, springs and autumns here. And given the choice of every six out of seven days sunny or overcast, I'll take sunny. But if you grow up someplace green and pleasant, the desert southwest is definitely an acquired taste. I hope it all works out for you while you live here. And that you get to go home for a visit as often as you can. When we go on vacation now, I don't want to go anywhere else besides the British Isles.

Ruth, like me comingfrom the East to the Western desert must have been a culture shock, but I'm still waiting to see a proper autumn and spring. I see spring and autumn (and sometimes an English summer!) during the 3 months of winter here minus the leaves changing, unless you travel out of the valley. I live in Surprise, not too far from phoenix, just another suburb. In fact each town seems to merge into the next with no connecting country roads! I always feel like I am driving in a maze, each suburb looks exactly the same. Same home styles, same colour stucco, same landscaping, same everything. That's why I love England's landscape, architecture and culture, there is so much variety. I think I may need to travel in the US al ittle too, as I know there is lots of vast and differing landscapes here too, just on a bigger scale. Lovely to meet you all. |
