Hi Charlotte (one of our lovely grandaughters members) nice to see you here, and what a clever idea to ask the questions of POE members, who really are in love with this website and forum.

I just know you will get a response, at the end of which I will add my thoughts so c'mon members Charlotte Brind needs your input please!

Hi Charlotte, lovely to see you here.

I found the website initially when I was looking for possible images for inspiration for painting.

But once I started looking at the pictures I was hooked on this site because of the quality and variety of the members photographs, which are such a pleasure to look at.

So why do I use it now?  Because it has wonderful pictures, good information on places, attractions and accommodation.  Fun and informative forums, which have good member participation and the people communicate in intelligent English.  I very much appreciate that there is no bad language or crudity on this site.

What do I enjoy about the site?  All of the above.

So really the two questions tend to become one:- I use it - because I enjoy it and because I enjoy it I keep on using it!

I hope this is of some help to you Charlotte and good luck with your studies.

  Hi Charlotte and welcome.

Why do I use this website? First off I was going to visit somewhere new to me (can't remember where now but chances are it would have been in Cornwall) and was looking on the internet for pictures of the place. Well come across POE and whoa! pictures a plenty and before long I was dashing all over Britain looking up places new and where I had been in the 1970's when I was a surveyor. As I enjoy photography and in this day and age pictures that you take often end up sitting on the computer or the SD card, well that just seemed to me to be not justifying ones use of photography. "Bolt of LIghtning" moment!!! join POE myself and start to use my photos and share them with all the other good folk on POE.

Well once I joined I discovered the site is much more than just a place to share photos, as you are probably aware ther are the forums here for fun and games, hints and tips on photography and computing, discussion on events of the day of all sorts , info on geography and history of Britain and just about anything members want to talk about and it's all in good taste.

What do I enjoy about POE? Well obviously the chance to share my photos along with the chance to see all the other splendid photos by the other POE members and giving a good comment on those that catch the eye as a stand out picture (and receiving a comment on the odd time POE members have something to say about one of my pictures). I have used the now since April last year and find it useful for finding out info on places. I also enjoy the forums and joining in some of the assortment of topics going on although I am still pretty much a novice at all this computer chat.

Well I hope that has given you a bit more insight into what makes us POE people tick and that your study goes well.

Chons Da ha Oll an Gwella (Good Luck and All the Best -as they say in Cornish).

Hi Charlotte, and welcome to POE! :-)

I used the site because it provides me with a community of like minded individuals with whom I share a great love of all things English.

Also, I met your grandfather, Ron, when on vacation in Oxford a number of years ago and he told me about this wonderful site.

I suppose the reasons I use the site and the reasons I love it are one and the same. I have come to think of the members here as an extended family.

I hope that helps, and good luck with your studies!

Hello Charlotte.

Good luck with you GCSE studies.

I came across POE during one of my many homesickness bouts. I was surfing the web looking for pictures of the English countryside, and up pops POE. It was love at first sight.

I use this web site to feed my homesickness. To get my England fix, when I know I can't be over there.  I also come here to visit on the forums, and to enjoy the friendships that I have made online.

What do I enjoy? I enjoy most all of the pictures, though some make me wonder. I enjoy reading everybody's comments on the pictures submitted. And I enjoy the camaraderie here on the forums.

As a bonus, I grew up on Old Road, and when I found out that the owners of this web site lived on the same street, well, I was floored.

And I can't finish this post without saying that I love the interaction I have with your granddad, Ron. And I am so glad that I had the opportunity to meet him, your grandma, Chris, Sarah and some of the little ones, a couple of years ago on one of my trips home.

GO POE!

I've just been reading through what other members have said and had a "light bulb" moment.  So to what I said previously:

For me POE is about COMMUNITY, here there is a sense of belonging, of shared interests (love for England and beautiful photographs) and friendship, and most importantly the members really care about each other and show it. POE folks are also able to tease one another, have fun together and share a sense of humour.  That is rare these days and makes POE into an unusually unique site.

Our thanks to CathyML, Vince, Diana and Sue for taking the time to respond to Charlotte, know that it is very much appreciated.

Lots more input needed for Charlotte though POE members, if you can spare a few minutes. Thanks in anticipation...

Anna and Ron
