Notes from an Anglophile in SA

Hi Syd.  Welcome to POE.  I think there are probably a few people around here who can help you with the geneaology.  If you are an anglophile, you will love it here.

You are quite right Syd, this is a site where you become one of the "family".

I was able to help Syd discover his maternal family back to his great, great grandparents. 

I think we have narrowed it down to William Haigh & Mary Speight of Leeds and William & Elizabeth Burtenshaw of London, that is back now to about 1800.  I am sure he and his family will have fun exploring further back!

Would that then be William Burtenshaw. b.1797 London who married Elizabeth Farrar ( b. 5 May,1796 London ) at Christ Church, Greyfriars, Newgate, London 25 June, 1820?

Well, it must be as William Haigh b. 16 Feb 1788 St Peters, Leeds marries Mary Speight and their son Samuel b. 27 June, 1817--now at Chapel Allerton, Leeds----has come down to London and on 12 Jan 1854 at St Giles, Camberwell marries Elizabeth Farrar Burtenshaw and the couple go back to Leeds. I have my suspicions Samuel was named after his grand father.
