Hello, I've just come across this lovely site and have had 3 photographs approved!

I've just got my first DSLR camera and am loving how it works although I am too cowardly to come off auto just yet!

My passion is nature, flowers, birds, wildlife in general although my partner says how many people are going to want to look at a thousand photographs of ducks???

I look forward to using the site, participating and receiving feedback. Hopefully I'll learn a bit about the skill of photography as I go along....

Thanks James, you have some pretty spectacular pics on here yourself! I have some photos of St Ives, but the one in Cambridgeshire - not beautiful Cornwall!

A warm welcome to POE Loren.  You will have found the most amazing photos and information, places to visit and places of interest by now on POE, and maybe seen the fun and games on the Forums, which I hope you will join in when you have time.

Looking forward to seeing thousands of ducks ;-))

Hi Loren and welcome to this great place. Like me I'm sure you will wish you had found it long ago. You have already indicated that you have seen some of the amazing pictures, there are some really good photographers within the membership. You will also notice as you get into POE that we enjoy a bit of fun and banter in several forums. Some serious stuff also I hasten to add. We are a friendly bunch so feel free to join in and don't hesitate to ask anything as there is a tremendous  wealth of knowledge here. As to your new camera get it off auto and try the various settings, you have nothing to lose as you can easily delete bad shots and retake them with different settings, it's a good way to learn. Again help is available....you only have ask. And by the way I don't mind ducksWink Look forward to seeing some of your images. Let us know a bit about yourself through your profile which is accessed from you personal menu

Greetings Loren and welcome to POE, I can endorse all that has been said above and encourage you to firstly join in as much as you can in the forums and secondly make good use of your camera in auto and also to experiment with all the different settings (take the same shot with different settings and see the effects ), you never know you might get that one shot that counts by going your own way . To help with learning photography look out for a magazine calle  " Photography for Beginners ". I have played with photography off and on for a long time, picked up this mag and it had loads of basic bits which up until then had not sunk in with me until reading the mag. Anyway do feel welcome with the Family POE, looking forward to seeing plenty of those pics, ducks and all, just enjoy your photography.
