Seal pup Donna Nook is a breeding ground for seals on the Lincolnshire coast between Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes. It is surprisingly close to an RAF bombing range which doesn't seem to bother them at all! The pups are born in November and many people make the journey to see them. It is an unforgetable experience! This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: FUJIFILM Model: FinePix F40fd 1 person has added this picture to their favourites |
Mother and baby It's hard not to be moved by the bond between the mother and baby here and yet the pups are left to fend for themselves almost immediately after the mothers have fed them for the last time at about three weeks old. The females mate again straight away and leave the pups to make their way from the beach to the sea alone and to find their first solid food. Close up This is how close you can get to the seal pups at the nature reserve at Donna Nook! They come right up to the fence and show no fear of humans but people are warned not to stroke them as there is a danger of the mother abandoning a pup with the scent of a human touch.
