Holy Island Castle

An oil painting by Catherine Kay Greenup of Holy Island. A tiny village cut off from the main land twice a day by the sea. A historic ministry is also on the island. Sacked repeatedly by the Vikings this island is reached by a causeway. Monks still make Lindisfarne Mead a honey liqueur. Which is sold only in the UK on Holy Island a few selected stores across the Northumberland and Newcastle. A magical place to visit and relax. But be aware of the tide times and never try to cross if you are too late. For the sea comes in at a smart walking pace and has caught many drivers unaware. You won’t be best liked if you need to be rescued, because the tide times are well advertised and warnings abound on the island. This adds to the islands excitement and adventure. A place very close to my heart.
