Old Dwellings Winlaton These were terrace houses 200 years old when knocked down. This was old Winlaton before they built the new village further up the valley. My Grandmother lived in 3 Belts Buildings Winlaton in 1895 when she was born. Her first job was in the steel mill making screws. She had to stand on a box to reach the milling machine and tie her hair back to keep it out of the machinery. Belts was the name of the Lord who owned that land. It’s a very old village in the Derwent Valley near Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an oil painting of the area close to the river Derwent and coal works now demolished.
