Stour Valley Spring, Shillingstone.
A panoramic view across the Blackmore Vale. The east end of Shillingstone is in the right mid foreground, Child Okeford centre ground, and Shaftesbury on the central horizon. Hambledon Hill on the right, is an Iron Age Hill Fort and as well as being an ancient monument, it is also a nature reserve managed by English Heritage. Melbury Down beyond, is owned by the National Trust.
The chalk grassland here supports large butterfly populations, including very large numbers of Chalkhill Blue, and a colony of Silver-spotted Skipper. Duncliffe Wood on the hill in the centre is also a nature reserve, managed by English Heritage. - Graham Rains (photographer)
