Exeter Astronomical clock Exeter Cathedral's Astronomical Clock is of the fifteenth-century. It displays the hour of the day, the day of the lunar month and the phase of the moon. The modern clock mechanism was installed in 1885 by Gillett & Bland of Croydon, and restored in 1910. If you look at the door beneath it you can see a round hole in the bottom right. That is where the Cathedral's cat would chase mice that scuttled around in the clock chamber. The Hickory, Dickery, Dock, nursery rhyme started from this clock. Exeter Cathedral Close Cathedral Close is a road in Exeter which has a number of old houses standing on that may belong to the Cathedral. It also has shops and commercial premises towards the end. Number 10 Cathedral Close has a rather impressive solid oak door. It is built in pieces that are expertly joined together and is studded and carved beautifully. No 10 was once where the Bishop of Crediton lived. I have never seen it opened but I believe it opens to a garden courtyard area, shared by No 10 and No 11.
