Perch Rock Lighthouse, New Brighton Called Perch Rock after the original light placed there on a wooden "perch" or tripod in 1683. Sadly this curious structure was destroyed by storms. This lighthouse was built in 1827 from stone brought from Anglesey and then coated with "Pizzellani, a volcanic substance from Mount Etna. This hardens with age, becoming rock hard.
