Childe of Hale statue detail This statue of John Middleton the Childe of Hale is a full figure standing three metre's tall in front of Hale Manor. I decided to take it from all angles, but this "portrait" suits monochrome I feel. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
Childe Of Hale, Hale Village, Liverpool Newly erected 3 metre bronze statue of the Childe Of Hale outside Hale Manor House. The Childe Of Hale, John Middleton was born here in 1578 and grew to be very tall. Legend has it that he was 9 feet 3 inches tall, but evidence taken from his bones and an impression of his hand indicate a height of 7 feet 9 inches. He was in any case a very tall man who worked at the nearby Speke Hall. He died in 1623. The statue has him looking towards his house, still standing a couple of hundred yards away. George's Dock Gate, Liverpool These steps leading to the gate, mark the spot of the old tidal George's Dock built in 1771 (now long since filled in.) Still remaining are parts of the dock wall, which are in the basement of the nearby Cunard Building. I used these steps a lot in the period 1963 to1969 when as a clerk I went out to various offices on business, or perhaps lunchtime for some fresh air in the small Church gardens nearby. This picture was taken 8th May 2013. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
St George slaying the Dragon. St Georges Hall, Liverpool One of two huge stained glass windows which cast light into the main hall. The other depicts the Liverpool Coat of Arms. Stunned Goldfinch, Liverpool. This young goldfinch had flown into the glass of our kitchen window and lay stunned on the patio. My wife held the little bird and soon all was well and off it flew, seemingly unharmed. This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
Princes Dock Footbridge, Liverpool. Eye catching modern bridge and I just had to capture it complete with the figure. Thought it looked better in monochrome. This picture appears in the following picture tour: |
Stanley Dock, Liverpool. Viewed from the bascule bridge, this dock almost seems to sleep waiting for the disused buildings to be developed. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |

Liver, Cunard and Port Of Liverpool Buildings Taken on 1st October at Liverpool's Pier Head. I was taking a walk in the hot sunshine and this image was there, so I captured it. The buildings have recently become known as "The Three Graces" not a term I much care for. The Pier Head has changed many times over my life but the Liver, Cunard and Port Of Liverpool Buildings remain as splendid as ever. I love them and was lucky to work in the Port Of Liverpool Building (then known as "The Dock Office") from 1963 to 1969 and went into the other two many times during that period. The Jilted Bride Taken at the Liverpool Hope Street Feast 18th September 2011. This poor "bride" spent the whole day walking the length of Hope Street on a seemingly endless and hopeless quest. One of the many acts of street theatre on the day. Great wacky fun! This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
