Paul. Detail from the Beatles statue, Pier Head, Liverpool. I took this as I liked the light from the harsh winter sun. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D750 |
All Together Now. Liverpool This detail is from a sculpture depicting two WWI soldiers, one British, the German shaking hands, a football on the ground between them. It's a well known story and a lesson in humanity. The full statue is among my pictures of Liverpool on POE. Port of Liverpool Interior. Liverpool waterfront. The Port of Liverpool Building stands proudly along side the Cunard and Royal Liver Buildings. This picture was taken looking upwards to the interior of the dome from the hallway. I worked here from 1963 to 1969 and never tired of admiring this wonderful building, both inside and out. They now have a coffee shop open to the public. Well worth a visit. In my day, we called it "the Dock Office". The Mersey Docks and Harbour Board was soon replaced by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company. This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
Queen Mary 2 departing Liverpool. It was a grey dull day, but this huge Cunarder brightened up the day for the many locals who turned out on both banks of the Mersey. This was taken from the beach at Wallasey. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
Street singer. Lord Street Liverpool. I saw this guy singing rather well and decided to capture his image. It was a very busy Saturday lunchtime and I was glad to be able to use the post box to isolate him. Fill in flash used 6th June 2015. Ruddy Turnstone, River Wall, South of Toxteth Dock. I've never seen these birds before, and, after a trawl through books and the WWW, finally the mystery was solved. Spotted during a walk along the Mersey River Wall on 1st May 2015,just south of Toxteth Dock. There were quite a few of these attractive little chaps who seemed quite happy for me to get quite close as they enjoyed the sun and breeze. Red guitar, Wonderful Land, Liverpool. A friend had told me about the blind guitarist who often performs in Church Street Liverpool, filling this busy shopping area with silky sounds reminiscent of Hank Marvin. By chance, I managed to capture a quick shot of the musician in full flow stroking the strings causing a delightful rendition of Wonderful Land. The iconic red of this Fender Stratocaster lookalike made me decide to do a mono conversion, just leaving the red of the guitar to “speak” for itself. Tulip against the light. Gateacre, Liverpool. Taken at 14.01 20-04-2015. I was in the garden and the tulip with the light of the sun shining through just begged to be captured. A simple shot. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
Blues in Liverpool. I was taking pictures in the "bombed out church" (St Luke's) when I heard the sounds of a slide guitar, filling my senses with Chicago rather than Liverpool. I found the musician playing in a sun trap on a cold day, but where he was it really was hot. Great sounds. The guy has talent. Taken on the 21st March 2015. Snowdrop fit to dazzle. River Mersey Ferry. Today, 2nd April 2015 saw the Mersey ferry Snowdrop emerge in her new Dazzle livery inspired by the British WWI ideas designed to confuse the enemy. Sir Peter Blake, no stranger to casting his artistic genius here in Liverpool, designed his updated ideas of using the Dazzle ideas. Snowdrop looks very striking. The picture was taken from Seacombe, Wallasey, with Liverpool providing the backdrop. Picture taken at 1.35pm. Greenbank Park, Liverpool. Greenbank Park is one of the lesser known in Liverpool. It's a place with ever changing colours and a local gem. Picture taken 23rd. February 2015. This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
Palm House, Sefton Park, Liverpool. This splendid Victorian structure was erected in 1896. Lost all the glass which was shattered in the May Blitz of 1941. Beautifully restored in recent years, and now one of the jewels in Liverpool's crown. Taken on the 16th February 2015 as the sun was setting. Days Of Judgement. Liverpool. This work, by Laura Ford can be seen in Jamaica Street, situated in the Baltic Triangle. I've seen it a few times and it is, for me a little disturbing. The light was flat enough on 15th February 2015 to take a passable image. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
Red and Blue. Liverpool. I just liked the vivid blue winter sky behind the red of this new building built very close to the old Liverpool Stadium, now long demolished. Modern buildings are often quite ugly, but as time passes some become much loved. The Royal Liver Building in Liverpool is an example of a structure that was considered by many to be in bad taste when first erected. Now it's iconic. Regent Road, Liverpool. Although not beautiful, I do find myself attracted to industrial shapes. Probably something to do with my Scouse genes. These bulk storage tanks against the light caught my eye on 17-01-2015. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
All Together Now at St Luke's Liverpool. This is a statue by Andy Edwards entitled “All Together Now” which for the next few days will be on display in St Luke’s, Liverpool’s famous “bombed out church”. The figures are about to shake hands standing over a football which relates to the time that British and German soldiers paused, apparently to play football on Christmas Day 1914. The hands do not quite meet which allows one to place a hand between them, joining the act of all too brief sanity on that day. The figures will leave Liverpool and finally rest in Flanders. Picture taken on the stroke of noon 16-12-14. Lumberjack, Liverpool. I was driving along the Liverpool North Dock Road (Regents Road), and noticed that the lumberjack on the roof of the now ex pub, the Dominion had had a fresh change of colour since I last caught him with my lens. He looked rather splendid. He may, or may not be a figure of Paul Bunyan, but regardless I just like the way he looks over the docks maybe as far as the New World. The lighting was strong enough to shoot at 1/1250th second at f5.6 to aid a sharp well saturated result. City Bikes Liverpool Liverpool now has its own version of “Boris bikes”, called “City Bikes”, and now they are getting to be ever more used as well as a common sight in the flatter parts of the city. I took this in Sefton Park near to the path leading to the Palm House. After processing the file I decided to turn it into a monochrome image with just the green of the bike frames untouched. The picture was taken in the rain just after midday, 10-12-2014. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
Wavertree Lock Up, Liverpool. This was erected in 1796 to house drunks overnight. At that time Wavertree was a village and badly needed a suitable place in which to place drunks. I rather doubt it had en-suite facilities! Picture taken 03-12-2014. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D300 |
Cressington Park Liverpool. Taken on 4th November 2014 from the Esplanade in Cressington Park, South Liverpool. This is a very quiet place, and a fine setting for a stroll enjoying splendid views of the Wirral and mountains of North Wales. The ever changing light is a delight, and sometimes the seagulls fly backwards to keep the sun out of their eyes.
