Wavertree Lock Up, Liverpool.

This was erected in 1796 to house drunks overnight. At that time Wavertree was a village and badly needed a suitable place in which to place drunks. I rather doubt it had en-suite facilities! Picture taken 03-12-2014.

The mind boggles at the thought of how many drunks at one time would be in there, the more there was the more choice it would have been in there. Excellent clear shot Rod.

Nice image and info Rod, there is a similar type of structure on the Stray in Harrogate, not sure of its origins but last time I passed it I think it was being used as a flower shop

It must be an extremely robust structure to repel the attentions of vandals. Might be interesting to get a closer shot to exclude the modern buildings.
