Ringlet (Aphantopus Hyperantus) Male Underwing View at Chobham Common The Ringlet is a somewhat common brown species, seen in a variety of habitats such as heathland, chalk hills and other grasslands. The upper side of the wings are a uniform chocolate brown, but the insect's name is derived from its underwings, which have a group of rings of alternating shades. Large Skipper (Ochlodes Sylvanus) Male on a Bramble on Chobham Common All of our Skipper butterflies are small, even this 'Large' species only has a wingspan of 3cm. The Chobham Cannon, at the Northern End of the High Street This cannon dates from 1979 and is a faithful copy and replacement for the original of 1901, which was presented to the village by the War Office to commemorate an earlier visit by Queen Victoria.
